Cellular Meter?

I am using a OnePlus One that I installed Ubuntu Touch on yesterday. I had a TCL phone that I was using prior with straight talk which had great service in my house but I believe it worked off of Verizon towers. The OnePlus One is gsm so I used the AT&T sim card that came in the keep your phone kit I got from walmart as the two gsm choices were T-Mobile and AT&T and I've already heard people used AT&T sim cards. Well so far from around the house and while going to the grocery store I have noticed that the signal meter does not say "4G" like the other phone I did, no indication or nothing the meter just fills up with no indication what type of signal I am getting. I went to settings and checked what I had selected and it showed that "2G/3G/4G" was checked, but shouldn't that also show "LTE" and how do I know if I'm getting LTE, or 4G at all. When I did a test though by sending "SPEED" to 611611 with straight talk it came back with a reply I had high speed but nothing to indicate it on the meter like normal phones. And when I drove to the grocery store in the parking lot where the meter showed I had a strong signal I tried streaming a video off of odysee website and it kept buffering but all is good on wifi.

I was reading a reply earlier and it deleted as I was about halfway done reading it. Anyway I do remember from earlier I noticed a green square to the right of the signal meter with an "L" inside it. Does that mean LTE?

In the UT cell indicator -
- E: Enhanced GPRS - a slightly faster form of 2G (still slow)
- H: HSPA (High Speed Packet Access) - enhanced 3G (medium)
- L: LTE (Long Term Evolution) - 4G (fast)

There was a long discussion about if we show 4G or L - basically saying, that term is not standardized, and was used and abused by vendors, by Google and Apple, in a very confusing way. LTE is used by Apple mostly, while 4G is more used by Android to describe the same thing.
Technically speaking, LTE is not even 4G. Its more like 3.9G
since it does not reach the required speed of 1GBit/s in the 4G spectrum. There is a standard called LTE+ or LTE Advanced that would be needed for that.The speed indicator should therefore show: 2G - G - E - 3G - H- L - 4G in ascending order. But there is one problem: Our interface to the modem does not have an option to detect if we have LTE or LTE-+ speed negotiated. So, best option is to show "L" and you can say thats "at least LTE, but maybe LTE+"

Thank you all for your answers. I was mistaken when I said I thought it was a green square I think that was the battery when I had it plugged in. It was a white square with L and it showed up all day today while I was at work with better signal and phone worked amazing, and now I know it stands for LTE thank you. People have complained before in my home area about poor AT&T service and I just have to deal with that in my home but I have other means of communication in my home so that is fine. Once again thank you all for your answers.
