@moem I have managed to load TWRP and have added the splash.zip file to TWRP folder on the device. in attempting to install it under "Install Zip" i receive the following warning:
"This operation may install incompatible software and render your device unusable"

Is this a standard Don't Hold Us Accountable If Our Software Kills Your Device? Or have i wandered in to a minefield?

@alan-adale Sorry but you are asking the wrong person. I haven't any knowledge of your device, beyond knowing that a Oneplus 3T is not a Oneplus One. Also I have never needed to do anything special to get a specific boot splash image.

            Is currently using an Op5t
Also owns an Op1, a BQ E4.5 and an Xperia X, as well as a BQ tablet and a Pinetab2. Please, someone... make it stop.

@alan-adale I would ignore the warning and carry onit just makes you stop and double check what you are doing, in this case it is just a bootsplash image and I think you can trust the source. Though might be best to back up stuff just in case If that does not work try unpacking the zip file?
I still have not tried this as my OP3 has not been used for some time.

@lakotaubp Flashed the zip file and it worked and now shows the OPO Ubuntu Touch flash screen! Yay! However, it now will only boot into twrp! one step forward two steps back 🙂

@alan-adale Even if you go into TWRP recovery and reboot system from there?

@lakotaubp evidently I've somehow managed to remove the OS! Reinstalling using UBPorts installer failing each time... "connection lost"

@alan-adale That sounds like the data and cache need wiping and fomating again to me

@lakotaubp Thanks. I’ve read some articles about reinstalling the stock OPO OS via fastboot and then retrying to install UT. Steep learning curve 🙂

@alan-adale You shouldn't need to reinstall the stock OP OS. Just boot to TWRP recovery and in advanced wipe options (iirk) you clear and data and format to ext 4 then just use the UBport installer. Or firstly just try a different usb cable and the UBports installer, then try the rest.

@lakotaubp Well, I am now in the interesting position of having the Ubuntu Touch boot screen and OPO's Android OS! Lol... it's been an education to end up with the exact opposite of what I was originally trying to achieve 🙂

It's a pity UBTouch can't be loaded by TWRP. I will try UBPorts installer again, probably not tonight. i believe my cable is ok... in my recent reading i came across there being an issue with Linux and UBPorts installer tho i didn't investigate further at that point as that wasn't my immediate problem then.

@alan-adale The installer will work fine with Linux Why would it not? The main issue will be to clear and format to ext4 cache and data.

I had a cable that I believed to be OK. But in my case, it helped to use a different one.

Would it be possible to include the appropriate splash screen in an OTA update for each device?

I guess that a UBports splash screen could be considered to be a major free publicity for UBports/UT and a welcome starter for each and every UT user.

@lakotaubp Finally! Success! I thank you for your encouraging comments as I stumbled on thru the fog on this frustrating experience, caused by my lack of understanding assuredly. I think my error was in not understanding that when it rebooted, during the early part of the install process, that the Android Recovery page with its Ubuntu Action and Android Action was the target and I should have left it alone at that point! What a long strange trip it has been! I hope the powers that be decide to incorporate it going forward as it is good advertising as 3T_Ed noted.

@alan-adale Concratulations wellndone on sticking with it and you have learnt a lot too. AS for the inclusion in the installer that has been covered in either a Q&A or on here but I can't remember whta was said but think the install process meant it could not be installed on all devices at start up. It is on some devices but not all.
