Flashing a One+ 6T with Android 11
-
I recently purchased a used One+ 6T McClaren Edition that is unlocked and bought directly from One +, but has the latest Android 11 OS. I want to flash it with Ubuntu Touch but I read where I have to go back to Android 9 first. I have to admit that I'm concerned that I may brick this phone as I'm not the techiest person out there. My question is, will UBPorts have an update anytime soon so that I can flash the phone and not have to flash Android 9 first? Are there any folks who do these types of thing for pay?
The other thing I'm considering if I cant do that is to send it to Rob Braxman and have him deGoogle it.

Flashing a device is pretty safe. The difficulties lie in unlocking the bootloader.
Depending on your device (I don't have the specific knowledge) you don't have to revert to android 9 ; but that's recommended. If you still don't feel up to it, I know some people might be able to help.
You can try on telegram https://t.me/ubports_op6 -
@lt-dillinger Downgrade to Android 9 is recommended in several pages. Unfortunately, I have the exact device like yours and my downgrade led to a soft brick. So, guidance by some experts would be good, maybe the telegram group can help.

@lt-dillinger the thing is that, before trying to experiment things, you can check the Q&As that are recorded and ready to watch in youtube, reading the posts in the forums and you will notice that they have just started to work in Android 10.
Of course that If you want to make that Android 11 happen, you can always help them making donations in Patron, or the different ways to support their already amazing job. With more money they will be able to hire more people and fill the gaps faster.
Is not an easy job, so, if you're not concerned about your privacy, a phone that has android, googled or degoogled, isn't safe. There are many things that google hide in their Mobile OS. I can't trust them even if Robs say so. I know google people aren't bad people, but they live in a country that don't let them live with the freedom they pressume. That's why they are forced to put surveillance stuff in the software they do. So, you can either TWRP
And downgrade to 9, or look into Plasma Mobile, Drodian. Returning to Android is eveb a choice, seriously? -
@applee When I tried to use UBPorts to flash it with Ubuntu Touch it notified me that I had a newer version of Android and I needed to downgrade to version 9.
-
@thousandtopics I hear you as I really don't trust anything Apple or Google, but if I can't do the Ubuntu Touch route, then a de-googled phone is better than having it operate with Android 11.

@lt-dillinger I donwgraded my Pixel 3a from 11 to 9. When I have purchased it, seller upgraded it without my concern. And I have a cheaper phone with android 11, I just don't feel confortable not having keys or buttons to move forward or check all the apps. Even I feel that the os almost run out of space.
There should be a guide, youtube tutorials are most of the times there for help. I believe someone has aleady fixed the problem you have. And I was about to purchase the exact same phone, just waiting an update on Drodian, Plasma Mobile or UT, checking which one would be the best option.

Having flashed a OnePlus 6t to UT - you will most definitely want to downgrade to Oxygen OS / Android 9 prior to using the UBports installer if you want a successful installation of UT. See instructions here how to do this - https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/guide-rollback-downgrade-from-oos-android-10-q-to-stable-9-pie.4000645/

I don't know if it matters, but the McLaren edition differs slightly from the OnePlus 6T. I never understood why I bricked the McLaren one (following these steps: https://github.com/Intrinsically-Sublime/fajita-factory-flash-bash-scripts ).
