happy news, the developer has updated Cooler Lineage image to 15.1, so in theory we could update the kernel (with work)

        https://github.com/bq-mtk/ota_releases/releases/tag/lineage-15.1-v3-freezerhd

This is excellent news, thanks for the link!

I recently played a bit with the M10, until I totally broke it (I'm still hoping to see it resurrect once the battery runs out for good, because now it gives no signs of life whatsoever), and I managed to build a working kernel. Here's my pull request.

The BQ github repos actually carry kernel 3.18, a more modern kernel version than the 3.10 we are using, so we could also try those.

But the project you found is extremely interesting, because it looks like it's actually being somehow maintained. An interesting repo I noticed:

          • Device tree for the BQ tablets: https://github.com/bq-mtk/android_device_bq_mt8163-common (it even has a branch for LineageOS 16)

That seems to be for freezer, though; I cannot find a device tree for cooler. Unless it's actually the same?

@mardy I was also really excited with this developer.

About the names, they use freezerhd for cooler and freezerfhd for freezer

For further questions, I might add you to the Telegram group they is active, or I could forward for you. Whatever is easier

I could try to help, but I would need a guide. I have (largely outdated) experience compiling kernels for pc.

@rapto That sounds awesome. Maybe we could make a work group. I never compiled a kernel (once for my laptop), @mardy that has experience and you. Maybe we can get more people around πŸ™‚

@arubislander I know you are interested in this matter as well

                  Hi guys
                  It's me Jose (jmpfbmx)
I have registered today and I hope that i can help you doing UT

The sources where i am developing and used for building LineageOS15.1 for M10HD are these:

                  • Device tree: https://github.com/bq-mtk/android_device_bq_freezerhd
                  • Kernel source: https://github.com/bq-mtk/android_kernel_bq_freezerhd
                  • Vendor blobs: https://github.com/bq-mtk/android_vendor_bq_freezerhd

As the ODM that bq used didn't provide connectivity modules, the fix I gave was using prebuilt modules from Stock Oreo ROM, i am not sure if that will work at Ubuntu Touch

                  Thanks
                  Regards Jose

There is no Halium for 15.1 though. https://docs.ubports.com/en/latest/porting/introduction/Intro.html#android-and-halium-versions

Since I now have one of these neat tablets, I have a new interest in this. Any news? πŸ˜‡

Also owns an Op1, a BQ E4.5 and an Xperia X, as well as a BQ tablet and a Pinetab2. Please, someone... make it stop.

@moem I have this tablet. I've always found it great. It has done me great service even though I don't use it now. If it could be saved for focal by I don't know what magic trick (or magician(s)), that would be great indeed. πŸ™‚

It would! I'm not expecting it, but yes, it would be wonderful. We can dream!
