The only smart phone I have ever owned or used was my Nexus 5 which came with UT already installed on it a few years ago. Despite its limitations I have generally been satisfied with it. However I recently wanted a specific application that is only available on Android so I reluctantly bought a secondhand Galaxy A3.

What a mistake that was. The world and his uncle wanted permissions to access the phone, while both Google and Samsung insisted on installing all sorts of objectionable rubbish that I did not want and could not remove. Furthemore it was endlessly notifying me of more rubbish to be installed or updated.

After 6 days I could stand it no more, so I wiped the damn thing and got rid of it. Having returned to UT on Nexus 5 peace and harmony has been restored. Never again will Google be allowed to intrude.

@cliffcoggin Should have gone with Motorola for a more vanilla Android experience. However, I have an Xiaomi Mi 10 for android usage. Won't buy one of them again. Just too big for a comfortable phone and the Xiaomi bloatware is really annoying. I want Android, not Android with a Miu facade. I will go back to Motorola next time.
I do like my Redmi Note 7 though. My only gripe really about UT is battery life. That is for a separate thread.

How do you think one feels to be forced to use an Iphone because of work? It is an endless nightmare. I bought a second used Fairphone 2 for my banking apps and like Motorola it is very vanilla. It was updated to android 10 a few days ago = future proof.

            4 Google Pixel 3A
            1 Google Nexus 6P
            2 Google Nexus 5
            2 Pinephones
            2 Sony Xperia X

Well I know of Iphone reputation but, as I said, I have never seen or used one. I doubt that I will be getting one this side of eternity.

I won't even comtemplate other phones until the major manufacturers produce them with screens smaller than 5 inches. 4 inches would be even better.

@cliffcoggin I think my favourite phone has to be the Nexus 4. Small, compact and so easy to repair. Unfortunately it will lose support when UT moves on to 20.04.
