I was advised in another Linux discussion forum that UBPorts will be dropping the BQ M10 FHD when the Ubuntu OS refresh occurs (2023?) and that OTA-23 will be the last release for it.

Do you have a link that references which devices will be dropped/added for the OS refresh, if/when that occurs.

      Thank you.

@edwaleni With the move to a base OS on 20.04 there will potntially be a few older or limited hardware devices that will not make the upgrade to 20.04. As it stands that list of devices is not certain though many of the original Bq and older devices are looking unlikely to make it. As soon as we have that list it will be published.

@edwaleni said in Dropping BQ M10 FHD:

and that OTA-23 will be the last release for it.

But this claim is most definitely not accurate. OTA-24 is already being worked on.

Yes as @arubislander states OTA-23 was not the last one. We are not talking weeks here for support to stop it will be months.

              @lakotaubp

              Thank you for the update.

Completely understand how resources have to be focused. The BQ M10 tablets are now over 6 years old and the company is no more.

It will be a matter of time before the batteries start to lose their chemistry to hold charges, while mine still works as usual, time marches on.

I have found various alternate ROM's for this tab, and they have some of the same functional issues as UBPorts does, which I found interesting. The last ROM I found was based on Android 8 Oreo using Lineage as their base. So this tab did have "some" life beyond its original OS target.

On https://devices.ubuntu-touch.io/ there is this statement:

"Ubuntu Touch Edition (Support will drop at 20.04 upgrade)"

But I'm having trouble finding / understanding which exactly those devices are...

Another label - which you may find on the older devices on the same web page - is "Legacy" - as opposed to "Halium 9.0". It is my understanding (which could be also wrong) that these "Legacy" devices (or some of them) may or may not be ported to 20.04 - it was not announced / decided yet.

@mihael there is much confusion on this matter because it just simply isn't clear yet. What we do know is that

                  1. The migration will not happen in a big bang scenario
                  2. the Volla Phones will be among the first to be migrated.
                  3. The Pixel 3a's also reportedly have a very early days, non-publicly available focal image available.
                  4. Based on the experience gained with these devices others might follow. Also guidance can be published for porters and device maintainers.

If devices are left behind, it is more likely because one or more of: they are not very popular (usage numbers are relatively small), the kernel is just too old and back porting systemd support is not feasible and / or no one is stepping up to do the work.

Don't suppose there is any news on whether or not this device will be dropped? If it is then I will probably consider getting the Juno Tablet so that I at least have a tablet that runs a linux os.

@catalyst Does the tablet still work for you? If so, then you can probably hang on to it for a few more OTA's while it becomes clearer what will be its fate.

(If looking for a confirmed future proof UT capable tablet, the JingPad is a great choice, if you can get your hands on one)
