Always boots to fastboot screen

@james-t It should boot up normally on 16.04. If you are on 20.04 Focal Fossa I will move this post and yes that is what is happening for now. It will be sorted soon and using the installer is the on;y way to install updates also for now.

@james-t Peculiar behaviour. I think the DATA partition may still be encrypted or have some corruption left from Android. Install TWRP and wipe the data partition and make sure it is formatted to EXT4. Then run it through the UT installer again and see if it boots normally.

I've had a closer look now.
Though the style is similar to a FastBoot screen, it's actually a warning screen basically saying"You've been naughty and installed a new OS on the phone, don't blame us if anything goes wrong.",
and it times out after a few seconds.

Oh, joy of joys. Tried to update my OP5T through the installer. Seemed to install fine, but always boots to Fastboot!!!. Cleared all with TWRP and try again. Same thing. The Gremlins are here. I have installed Android and will try again. 16.04 and 20.04 gave the same result. Boot to bootloader and no further. No recovery at all. Install seemed to go fine. Getvar all shows:

(bootloader) kernel:uefiPartitions present, but seem to be raw. I wonder if the system install hosed the partition structure, but in TWRP they were there and in the correct format (EXT4).

Got it back to 20.04. Pretty simple if you do a lot of ROM installations:
Download TWRP for for 5T (Dumpling) here. Attach the device to your PC in fastboot mode (bootloader) and install TWRP from the command line in the PC -
./fastboot flash recovery <location of your TWRP file>Boot into recovery, ensure the data partition is EXT4 and wipe cache and system. Reboot the phone to recovery.
Download the stock ROM (OnePlus5TOxygen_43_OTA_004_all_1711152324_9a7ca8ad1c7d.zip) from here. Copy it to the device NOT in a folder so it is in the root of the device.
In TWRP choose install and install the ROM zip file - leave it alone and let it do its thing. Once installed reboot the phone and again leave it alone, let it do its thing. Run through Android set up and then enable developer options and USB debugging.
Run your UT installer and follow the instructions.
