Smooth 20.04/rc on Xperia X F5121
-
Feedback:
Hey mates,
I just tried 20.04/rc on my F5121 and noticed how waaaaay swifter and smoother everything is vs 16.04/stable. What's the secret sauce to this? Cheers.

@TakoR Principally, newer versions of lots of components.

@TakoR Focal is indeed noticeably smoother. Nice to know that Xperia X is also smoother. I'll probably upgrade mine some time even though I don't use it anymore

Nice. The speed and smoothness can be related to the upgrade from Desktop Ubuntu 20.04 to 22.04. It's like having a brand new device, unlike with normie phones where they get slower and slower by the update.

I am looking forward to the stable update. I still don't have LTE on mine when I trialled it.

Don't know if there is a stable channel for the Xperia X yet or no. But (I am assuming you meant Vo)LTE is not yet available in any stable release. I have missed the last few Developer's Sync meetings, but in the last one I listened in on VoLTE was mentioned and at least one more person was going to be made available to help when needed.

@arubislander I was referring to regular mobile data LTE but it's all good now. I might have just botched the update using the UBPorts installer when I thought that the phone was unresponsive at the SONY logo.
I have updated to 20.04/rc now and the LTE mobile data is working properly already.
I will upgrade to the stable one when it arrives but, for now, the rc is what I am using. It's just much faster than 16.04. Buttery-smooth is the best description, I guess.

I moved my Xperia to 20.04 recently, and everything went well. I am pleased with the outcome, thanks to everybody, who contributed to that!
I wonder if anybody has tried to upgrade to OTA-2 manually, and with what results? (Obviously there is no upgrade offered under the System/update section.)
Kind regards,
Stefan
