WhatsApp on Ubuntu Touch?
-
Will you finally bring WhatsApp to Ubuntu Touch? I mean that Ubuntu Touch is slightly based on IOS. In any case, it would be very nice if WhatsApp were finally available natively. Telegram and other platforms are also partly available for UT, at least that was the case for Xenial. Focal is and remains a construction site with so few apps. You can definitely forget about the web apps because you can also create a bookmark in the browser. Ubuntu Touch even lacks a browser. Nevertheless, good luck that Ubuntu Touch gets better. There is still a lot missing, as a tester you know.

@UBportsNews It would be time not to do so much OTA stuff, but to get VoLte, VoWifi and common apps like WhatsApp to Ubuntu Touch first. Everything else is definitely not necessary from the user's point of view if an OTA is stable. I would go even further and reserve the software channels RC and Dev for developers only. Because if you play too much with Ubuntu Touch, you will break the software faster than you use it.

As a tester, a lot is still missing, especially basic 4G LTE telephony or even WLAN telephony. That's why I don't understand as a user that the development is only for OTA and the system is constantly being tinkered with. Now they are already working on 24.04, no wonder the Ubports software doesn't work reliably.

No. How did you come to that conclusion? UT is based on Ubuntu which is Linux (FOSS), and iOS is Unix and closed source.

WhatsApp is closed source without any available documentation of it protocol. So unless Meta decides to port their app to UT, which has very very low chances of happening in the near future, it is impossible.

I mean that the interface looks a bit like Apple. The settings gear, for example. Otherwise yes, Ubuntu Touch is understandable differently. WhatsApp understanding to some extent. You should really ask Meta or ask for it, it would also be in your interest that UT becomes better known. Waydroid is great that it works with it but the battery runs out quickly. OK, that's sorted.

Hi, if you want Whatsapp in UT it's as easy as asking Meta to make a version for UT.
Neither Google, nor Apple make Whatsapp for Android/Iphone.
Anyway this thread is not for debate this is a call for testing.

Moderation note:
This topic was split off from two different topics where the questions were off-topic. Please do a forum search if you want to know about the challenges involved in getting WhatsApp on Ubuntu Touch; it's not exactly a new conversation. Also kindly refrain from telling the people who are doing the actual work what they should be doing. It's not helpful and not appreciated.

@Moem Do you know what Ubuntu Touch is and will always remain a test system with this attitude? It is also cheeky to forbid me to say what I have been trying to say here in a normal tone for so long. If you have this support only in English and no German support Telegram is a Frankenstein service!!!! Sorry then it is. And I know you don't want any cretics here. But it's cheeky if the system doesn't even have support for Xiaomi ports in general. I will express my factual opinion wherever I see fit and stand by it.Just like in the Telegram group you spread OT yourself and count me in. You better be happy that there are people like me. OK, maybe I can't do much programming because I'm not a developer. But the testing and what not for you wanted to have tested. You don't have to understand. The fact is a Waydroid is not a solution in the long run because it uses up battery power.

@Enrico13011978 Please tone it down. This is a formal warning. I do not want to ban you but if I have to, I will.

@Enrico13011978 You have had sufficient warnings and requests to stay on topic. You seem unable to do so, and also when called out you become snarky, bordering on abusive.
If UT does not meet your needs, please use something else.
