That said, it's a relatively simple process, no need to even solder!

The XA2 battery is a fraction of a millimeter thicker and just a bit taller, but all I had to do was show a knife to a very small piece of plastic. If your glue is good on the back plate, the cover should stay on nicely.

For the connector to fit you need to carefully peel the black reinforcement part from the flexible cable. Mount the battery on it's face and then you can bend over the cable to the phone connector like so.

Try not to over-bend the cable, otherwise you are risking the connection to fail (which, we are stretching already by doing this).

When the connector is in place everything should work. You should probably let the battery drain to 0% and charge fully a couple of times to make Android battery measurement understand the new capacity

Edit: Just to be on the safe side (and to minimize the risk of fire) you should drain the new battery before doing any of this. It's good practice with batteries even if you don't solder them.

Edit2: Android does not have support for learning a new capacity. I tried compiling a new kernel for the battery but could not find enough documentation for making my own batterydata config.

Don't forget to quote the "edit 3" please...

Edit3 after 6 months: IF YOU DO THIS, YOU MAY END UP WITH A BROKEN BATTERY CABLE! I had to replace my screen and after that my battery cable broke. I had to solder regular wire on its place.

I no longer recommend doing this!

Awful phones. I haven't got hold of one which has had an unlockable bootloader! The screen's ribbon cable is more delicate than others, so prevents a working screen if you mess with it too much. From this, a dab of silicone glue to support the battery connector at the socket would help, as would a thin bit of foam covering the battery cable and connector to squeeze it between the case and back cover. Definitely glue the battery in place or use strong double sided tape (3m) to stop the battery moving.

This should be in the first post. Better fix the battery cable too.

The bootloader unlock is super easy on this device.

The ones I got hold of wouldn't allow it. I gave up. They do have a nice screen.
