Construct a real phone
-
When it is made the software we have to convince the makers of Raspberry pi to construct and sell a real device, a phone.
-
Sounds like a good step torwards world dominance
A self made phone might be interesting for education purpose, too. -
I would love to see a video like that one for the phone!
-
@cesar-herrera do you mean something like a PiPhone?
-
@aury88 @cesar-herrera @jonius - Oddly enough, I've begun to think of the sales of Purism's Librem 5 developer's SBC as a sort of self-build educational phone. Though perhaps I've not understood it's scope well enough.
-
@aury88 Yes.
-
@3arn0wl said in Construct a real phone:
Purism's Librem 5 developer's SBC
Could you explain this more or give us a link?
-
@aury88 Lets bring Ubuntu Touch to the PiPhone!
-
@jonius I don't know whether they still are, but Purism was offering a "Developer kit" which included the mainboard, a screen and a power supply: https://puri.sm/shop/librem-5/
-
@3arn0wl Yes they are, but the pre-order phase is over now I think (end of May or so). So for the first batch it will be too late...
-
@flohack I don't know what the connectors for the screen will be like, but I think it would be nifty to attach a 10" e-ink to it, put it in a box (with a big-ass battery) and use it as a "textercise" book.

@3arn0wl
yes it is! but I think that RaspberryPi still remain the main reference board among the developers (already well documented, well tested and with many ports with associated documentation/howto). so porting UbPorts on this board could allow the arrival of many developers that already use the raspberry in their projects...also the UT port on Librem5 board (phone and/or kit, they are the same) is already covered with the Ubports-Purism agreements. -
@jonius Ok! I only need a respberryPi, the PiPhone kit and to learn programming/porting x.D
