Ready to fight against planned obsolescence ?
-
@agnes007 can I just thank you for the work you do? you, and all your colleagues? I migrated from iPhone to FairPhone last year and I haven't looked back. It's a fantastic experience, at least with e/OS
-
@agnes007 the Android Build & Release Engineer position looks very interesting!
I see that the position is hybrid + based in Amsterdam, is this open to discussion - e.g. would it be possible to start mostly remote from France with regular visits to Amsterdam?
-
@mithfindel this is not the plan right now

-
@agnes007 thanks for the reply!
I guess this is not for me for the moment then
all the best in finding the right candidates! -
bravo supers telephones.

@yanndegat could you ask ditectly @z3ntu ?
-
-
@agnes007 is it normal in your location not to specify pay numbers?
-
@yanndegat There's active work in all of these areas, but time is limited so it'll take a while until more features are working correctly.
Also Fairphone does publish as much source code as possible for all devices, see e.g. https://code.fairphone.com/projects/fairphone-gen-6/odm.html
-
@yanndegat @agnes007 @z3ntu The kernel is published, it's GPL after all, and Fairphone doesn't have the rights to open-source the proprietary Android userland drivers. The FP5 and FP6 are as well supported as possible with the few developers that have worked on it so far.
The only thing Fairphone _could_ do is spend developer time on mainlining the thing, but I don't think that's a worthwhile endeavour for them at the moment.Anyhow this is the wrong thread to ask that question.
-
@z3ntu thanks a lot.
as i wanted to purchase for a fp6 or fp5 sooner or later this year, i was wondering if fp6 was going to be as well supported as fp5 or even more. (at least phone calls and gps). of course i can understand that postmarketos may not be a high priority target at the moment for FP. and i checked videos on youtube a just saw that you actually were pretty active in this area, so i guess i'll just have to wait and keep watching for updates.
thanks again for your work .
-
@yanndegat For postmarketOS, Fairphone 5 will be definitely the better device for the foreseeable future, lots of work going into it.
For the Fairphone (Gen. 6) to catch up will definitely take more than a year, if not longer.
-
@agnes007 How about hiring another engineer for #SailfishOS

I'm running a community port (with Android support but don't tell anyone) on the FP5 and it needs just a bit of work to be a serious "daily driver" alternative to Jolla's official Xperia 10 III phone.
-
@agnes007 Aww man I actually have the credentials for the Buld And Release engineer. I just don't live there :cc
-
Hi @agnes007, it's great you guys are hiring! Can you provide a range of monthly/yearly salary offered for each position? Basically, enough information to answer "is it worth relocating to Amsterdam"
-
@agnes007 @mithfindel aw darn, would’ve liked to apply as well
