Should it possible to install UbuntuTouch on a FP4?
-
Hi experts !
Here a newbie question. I just received a FP4 with Android 12 out of the box. As I understand the page https://devices.ubuntu-touch.io/device/fp4/ it should be possible to install UT on the FP4. I should first downgrade to A11. But when I follow the described steps it should be possible? Asking because I see some posts when people get stuck in the boot process. I succeeded before to install e/os on my Nothing CMF 1, I do my private stuff on a Manjaro box, so I do hope to have a lot of fun with the FP4 with UbuntuTouch or PostmarketOS or ....

Thanks in advance for a reply.
Cheers, Jan

@MrRoughwood Hi Jan,
I have had positive experience with the UBPorts installer and Ubuntu Touch 20.04 installation on my secondary device, a Fairphone with 128Gb in April 2025. So I was a little surprised to see that thread about a failed install a few days ago.
I was gonna wait until (hopefully end of September, thank you to all developers <3) the new Ubuntu Touch Version 24.04 gets released and install that on my main phone Fairphone 4 with 256Gb. I can get back to you once I'm done to tell you how it went. -
@jilly aha, that sounds great, I've the 6/128Gb model. Thanks for your reply!

Wow that 'escalated' quickly
Yes I can confirm that UbuntuTouch can be installed on a FP4
Possible with the good documentation/steps and tooling. I installed it with ubports-installer_0.11.2_linux_x86_64_AppImage via my Manjaro NUC box. The installation went smooth! I experienced the unlocking process as a little sweating, because the phone boots several time. And each time you have to go to the intial 'start' screen and enable the USB Debugging again. Now I should spend some time in discovering UT. I've chosen for the 20.04/stable release at first. -
Hi MrRoughwood,
Congratulations!

And it's a very good decision to start with βstable.β

Greetings
Mario
