Some questions

Hello all,
I started using my Faiphone 4 as a daily driver instead of using it as a hobby platform. This made me use it differently and made me aware of some troublesome thing within this OS.
Let me firs say that I rely appreciate what you all have accomplished! It is a usable platform.
This said there are some issues I encounter...
Using Uwolf was hard work but, finally I managed to get it it to login to Firefox so my password problem is resolved. However I can only use it with an external keyboard, Yes I activated the keyboard in the phone itself but sadly it does not show in Uwolf. And that is really a problem, working on-the-go using an external keyboard is not doable. Is there a way to activate the screen keyboard in Uwolf?
Than WhatsApp. This is not working without my Android phone as you need it to activate WhatsApp web. I do not have a working Android phone at hand... Is there a wai around this?

@Ernst-Jan15 For Android stuff, you can use Waydroid.

If you don't have another Adroid device, you can have your main account in waydroid, and then in whatsweb instead of using the Qr-Code select "login with a phone number", it should allow you to link easily whatsweb to your main account in waydroid.
For the browsers have you tried other alternatives than uWolf, like Morph Qt6 version, Min browser, Chromium for UT, to see if they suit you more.
Ps: normally On-screen-keyboard should work in uWolf though, is your system up-to-date? What version are you currenlty using?

I just downloaded the thing, launching it from the store promptly rebooted the phone
but after that it launched and I could use the OS keyboard, so my guess is that the OP is using Focal.I see no reason to use Focal on the FP4. Noble (24.04.1.x) is said to work on this phone.

Yes currently it cannot be launched from the openstore I think. I have informed @chromiumos-guy about a solution for that problems that worked for Signal-UT and Min browser.

@pparent For the webbrowser I now tried chromium. Sadly I'm not able to store my passwords there. The first time I used it my Chrome passwords were thare but the second start I put in some new passwords, after this only the new wones were there. In Chromium I cannot use my standard folders. So it is impossible to reach the cvs file I put there. I think Chromium stil need some work.
Morph works fine as A browsenr. It can't however store my passwords. So for me also a no go.

Focal is Ubuntu Touch 20.04, while Noble is version 24.04.
You can check your current version in "Parameters" app, and then system information.

@pparent Min Browser also rejects me to my normal Ubuntu Touch folders. I don' t understad why...

Then I don't understand why you wouldn't get an On-screen-keyboard with uWolf.
You can report the bug in the application support topic: https://forums.ubports.com/topic/11060/uwolf-librewolf
Otherwise can you tell if you have the same problem (On-screen-keyboard not showing up) with the application "Min browser" and "Chromium for UT" ? (Even if those browser do not suit you, just to test the keyboard)

also, you said that you had trouble to make uWolf to run while for me it was just an installation from the store and an (unwanted) restart, did you do special changes to your phone: turn the rootfs r/w for example, and if yes what did you do with it ?

@pparent in min broser and morph the screen keybord shows up. In Chromium and Uwolf it is not showing...

So that's the bleeding edge of unstable. Well, I don't think that the clicks on the store are necessarily tested against unstable version, so that must explain why uWolf don't work correctly.

That's very strange because I think Min Browser, and Chromium for UT are basically based on the same code, so I'm surprised one would work and not the other.
As @gpatel-fr said, maybe try reinstalling the stable version 24.04.1
Cos for me keyboard works fine in uWolf on 24.04.1

@pparent yeah i know, im drowning in exams right now and I'm also foucsing on making xdg-desktop-portals supported in lomiri as you know and that's more important because it will make the only problem a UI problem which is better then manually patching apps to work with lomiri alternatives.

@pparent going back to the stable version means teinstalling UT from scratch?

Well you have to reinstall it from the installer, but you can keep all your userdata and installed apps. Just make sure to UNCHECK "wipe userdata", when you reinstall.
In practice this is quite fast to do, and you won't have much overhead as you will find everything as you left it and will not loose any of your user setup. Anyway it's really not recommended to use development version for a usage as a daily driver.

@gpatel-fr I did not have trouble running Uwolf exept for the fact that I only can use it with an external keybord.
I stil not quite understand the onscreen keybord problem. In most apps/ programs it workes fine. So how could this be an OS issue? For me it looks like a app problem. Is te onscreen keyboard not part of the OS and is called from within an app?
I write this message from my phone on the onscreen keyboard...
