Hi, I have been running UT on Nexus 5 for some months as my main phone. A while ago, OpenStore stopped working and I have been having trouble with MMS. I thought reinstalling both apps would be a solution. I have already removed OpenStore and I cannot figure out how to get it back. Q1: can you help me reinstall OpenStore? Q2: Can I reinstall the messaging app?

I would make a back up if your your phone and reflash it using the UBports installer. You will then have a clean version on your phone. Reinstall your files etc from your back up.
You will then have Openstore and messaging back. If MMS is still playing up switch to the dev channel in update settings or even toggle off and on aeroplane mode.
I think you used to be able to install the Openstore using Magic device Tool but support has stopped and I haven't used it for a long time. it might be worth a quick look but I would go with the first method. There also
        https://open-store.io
        Which is the openstore website

@lakotaubp Thank you for your reply.
I was able to reinstall OpenStore easily using the instructions from https://open-store.io/about
and I was hoping to avoid the reflash so I will try your toggle suggestion and switch to the dev channel and reflash as a last resort. Cheers.
