Wow, thanks for this Stefano. I have just obtained another Pro5 and want to install 16.04.
Would I still need to go through the procedure to re-partition as per you post here - You need to decrease the size of partition 42 ( sda 42 )(custom) before using this backup?

@stefano Thanks for the image. I used that to bring my Pro 5 up to 16.04.
I turned out still needing to increase the size of the cache partition afterwards, because otherwise switching channels would consistantly fail.

@arubislander yeah, thought so. But which way did you change it? have you tried with cli ???
with this command from your phone Terminal you can switch as well.

                  sudo system-image-cli -vvvv --switch 16.04/stable

Or rc/devel, whatever channel you want to use...

@stefano said in Meizu Pro 5 16.04 STABLE BACKUP for restoring with TWRP.:

But which way did you change it?

I tried with the installer, I tried via the settings, I tried via ubuntu-device-flash and I tried via the cli on the device itself. They all gave me different errors that amounted to the same thing: insufficient space to download the images in the /cache partition.

BTW, I took most of the guessing work out of finding the right sector size for the partitions by realizing that the partitions have to start on sectors with numbers divisible by 256 64.

@stefano That was really straightforward, the phone that was delivered was an unlocked flyme international version and I could immediately get into fastboot and flash TWRP. The restore of the backup went smoothly. The flash of the recovery-turbo.img finished this off. once in UBports Ubuntu Touch it asked for an update so I selected update rebooted and now I am on 16.04 (2018-W34/3)
Is there any advantage in changing the channel from stable?

@halucigenia yes, new stuff, pre-OTA-5 updates, but at the moment I would only go for rc, if you need the phone as a daily driver.

Aarrrgh... On the Pro 5 just installed with 16.04 there is no audio from the headphones. I did not check this before upgrading from flyme but just to check - this is not a known issue is it?

@halucigenia I put the phone back to flyme version 5.6.1.19 (the one from [TUTORIAL] Unlock the bootloader of Meizu PRO 5 and the headphone issue is still there. I replaced the headphone jack too and that did not help It seems that I bought another Pro 5 with headphone issues.
