Why is search disabled unless I login?

Whenever I try to search the forum I am taken to the login page if I am not logged in already; is this intentional or a misconfiguration/bug? If it is intentional, then why?

@Cybernaut I don't know the real explanation but I suppose that it's to avoid random people abusing the search function.
The search engine is pretty limited anyway
so what I usually do is to use DDG with the parameter site:https://forums.ubports.com/
