I have a Nexus 5 with Ubuntu Touch. How do I back it up? I see no such option in the Recovery utility. And, when I plug my phone into my computer, and try to copy files, I notice that a lot of them are not listed in the directory (hidden files are not listed, in spite of me instructing the desktop file manager to list them). So, I'm not sure how I can copy all my files.

Hmm. Well, I think I found a way to copy some files I wanted to keep. I found the hidden directory, and, using the file manager on the phone, I've copied it to the Downloads directory. This is accessible via my desktop file manager (Thunar or PCManFM). So, I can copy stuff to my desktop.

Still, I don't know why a backup utility wasn't included in the Recovery program.
