Odd that this file didn't appear initially when I ran "ls" in the directory. It only showed up after I installed the locate program.

It seems that it's been a long-standing bug. I think I'm going to have to adopt LineageOS for a while until this bug is fixed. I did add to the bug report as well as I could.

@MarkG_108 or help finding/fixing the bug :). We can follow this issue on github . We need to find if it can come from bad datas. see history.sqlite in .local/share/history-service

@lduboeuf I did save history.sqlite before switching back to LineageOS, so later I'll return and look at the bug to see if there's any more information I can contribute. I do have DB Browser for SQLite installed.

@lduboeuf I did that and it showed nothing different from what my phone displayed. So, perhaps I was mistaken. I thought some conversations were missing, but maybe not.

@lduboeuf So, nothing has been confirmed. But, nothing has been shown to be false either. So, shortly I'll re-install Ubuntu Touch and ensure that more than three conversations happen, and then report back what happens.

@lduboeuf Okay, so I reinstalled UT. I'll test it tomorrow. I suspect the messaging is working fine. I thought something might be off because a text that's regularly sent from my employer did not show up. I then searched, found the bug, and, I suspect mistakenly, assumed that the phone was not displaying this text I was expecting. It turns out that no one in my work place received this regular communique from my employer. So, likely nothing is wrong. But, to verify, tomorrow I plan to text a lot of people to see if more than a few conversations show up.

Well, so far I have four conversations, and they're all represented in the history display. So, I think there is no problem here. I'll continue to monitor it. [edit] I deleted the message with the in progress wheel, and then immediately received some other message from my cell phone provider. Anyway, the wheel thing is now telling me that I've received 3 text messages. I see two in the history of messages within the app Messages. The top menu shows nothing under "Notifications".
                              I'm not feeling very confident.

Further on this, the opening monitor with the time wheel indicates that "2 text messages received today", yet the Message app show only one was received. Also, one of the texts that I sent (or attempted to send) yesterday still has an in progress wheel beside it.
It does seem that texts which I initiate are received and recorded in history, but I'm less certain about text conversations which others initiate.

There were four conversations, so it seems the history does extend further than just a few. However, the handling of group MMS messages seemed suspect.

Well, I'm pretty sure that MMS group texts were messed up, and perhaps this led to the reporting of text history to be off.

However, I feel that maybe I had not set up things correctly. So, I'm going to try to reinstall Ubuntu Touch. But, this time I'll be sure to make the install as clean as possible, via wiping and formatting my phone first and then installing the OS. Then, I'll be sure to have data turned on and the settings for MMS/APN properly set (I think Ubuntu does this automatically, but I suspect I messed it up by screwing around, so I'm going to try again to be sure).

So, I'm going to give Ubuntu Touch another try.

Hmm. I'm still not confident. I got a message from a friend ("Merry xmas y'all louts and lass!!") that I KNOW is a group MMS message. Yet it shows as having come solely from the one friend. Yet the option to respond to all isn't there (it appears my response went solely to the friend who sent it, but not the group as a whole). And I'm not seeing any other messages from anyone else in the group.

The APN and "Internet and MMS" settings seem correct. I use Public Mobile, which has instructions here: https://apn-canada.gishan.net/en/apn/public-mobile/ubuntu

I checked the current settings, and all correspond to what the Public Mobile site has put forth, except for the following: "Protocol: IPv4". I saw no space to enter it, but I assume that is the protocol the phone is using.

Sending and receiving MMS is indeed quite broken -- there are a raft of relevant issues at https://github.com/ubports/ubuntu-touch/issues?utf8=✓&q=is%3Aissue+is%3Aopen+mms. It's one of those things that I keep getting pulled away from, and don't make much progress on while I'm working on it.
