      Hello everyone!
sorry if this is the wrong place to post this.

I recently installed Ubuntu touch on my oneplus 3T
I succesfully got anbox running on my device and I am planning on installing whatsapp.

However I heard whatsapp is rathere unfriendly to people who use the apk.

has anyone used whatsapp anbox? and did you get banned for it?

Where did you hear this? Unofficial / reverse engineered clients yes, but I don't think there is a way to differentiate between an apk installed via the playstore or not. Of course you need to make sure you keep it updated regularly.

As for Anbox... hard to say but in theory this box should look like just another somewhat outdated Android from the "inside". I guess if WhatsApp was actively looking for signs of it running in Anbox, it could figure it out, but given the niche use I doubt that will ever be the case.

I don't use WhatsApp and don't know too much about this, but I wouldn't think Anbox would affect how WhatsApp operates. From a quick search online, it seems WhatsApp found faults with certain "unauthorized" WhatsApp forks (?) that were created. If you're just using the normal Android .apk then I don't think they would think anything is different as Anbox shouldn't affect its normal operation (unless someone here knows of something Anbox does that would make WhatsApp look differently).

I have been using whats app in an box for about a year now without any problems... I just had to upgrade it at one moment, that's all.

@mihael You have been using Anbox for a year? On a daily driver? How is the experience overall?

@arubislander Well, I just disable anbox after checking my whats app so that the battery would not drain. And I don't have notifications from whats app. I cannot see videos or gifs. So for texts and images is great. Oh, I cannot open links or copy paste from whats app to UT.

If there is already an easy explanation available what to do to test Anbox with WA on a Nexus 5 I would also like to try πŸ˜‰

I thought it is running with problems and technical hurdles until now? And WA has to run on another android in parallel?

No, as Anbox is Android. I guess the biggest issue for now is that you have to remount the base OS image in read/write mode to install Anbox. This in turn prevents you from doing regular OTA updates, or if you do it you have to reinstall Anbox and WA afterwards again.
