    • Comparison of all kind of Linux Mobile Systems

I am using now since 2015 ubuntu touch as my only mobile system. I bought at that time this wonderful BQ E5 (which is now broken ;/). Today I use a N5 which runs brilliant with ut.

I have started to have a look at other linux mobile systems. These experiences I would like to share here. I am sure that such a view to the others can improve ut (and the others too) a lot.

The following systems I have already tried:

      1. Plasma Mobile on a Nexus 5+: https://www.plasma-mobile.org/

      2. Nemo Mobile on a Nexus 5+: https://wiki.merproject.org/wiki/Nemo

      3. SailfishOS on a Sony XA2: https://sailfishos.org/

      4. Eelo on a Nexus 5+: https://e.foundation

    • Nexus 5 -> battery selection

I still have the dream that my Nexus 5 phones will nearly have the same battery capacity than the old BQ E5. On the market are 3 different batteries for the N5 available:

      • original LG BL-T9, 2300mAh
      • GLK-Technologies, 2450mAh
      • Polarcell, 2450mAh

Normally I thought the Powercell should be the best one. But now I found also an accu from Extremecells:

      https://www.ebay.de/itm/Extremecells-Akku-fΓΌr-LG-Google-Nexus-5-D821-D820-BL-T9-Accu-Batterie-Battery/252400969378

An accu comparison for Samsung phones found out that Extremecells had the highest capacity:

      Has somebody experiences whith them?

    • Using ut-phones as a media station - offering a specific media-image of UT !?

I use my old BQ E5 as a music station. I bought some years ago a pure bluethooth speaker (https://www.teufelaudio.com/uk/bluetooth.html) and the ut-BQ is just laying on the living room table and can be connected with it and plays music files, radio stations, can be used as a KODI remote control or anything else.

I deinstalled all ut apps without media functionalities and just have pure music apps installed - and nothing else.

Why I write this? It's just an idea to offer a specific UT which can be downloaded and installed on old phones to be used as such a music phone (like e.g. sparky is offering a specific multimedia debian: https://sparkylinux.org/download/rolling/)

And I like that much more than having a lot of electronic equipment in the living area. Old phones (also with errors) can be bought cheap and also old bluetooth speakers are having less electronical components and so a lower ecological footstep.

    • RE: RSS Reader

I have installed your RSS Reader Scope and I really love that function and it is one of the most used on my phone.

I was wondering why scopes are still useable in 16.04. Now I read here that rest-scope-functionalities will be deleted with coming OTA 8: (see chapter What's Next?) https://ubports.com/pt_PT/blog/ubports-blog-1/post/ubuntu-touch-ota-7-release-192

Probably your RSS Reader Scope will than not be useable anymore?! If so - could you develop an app out of it?

    • RE: All german public authorities and private companies could be forced stopp using Twitter, Fb & Co.

@guru I think ALL people here who are using & developing UT are doing it more or less similar to that what you write. But I am afraid there are not a lot groups like us who are aware of what that really means.

As I come out of the climate movement (energy - not IT) - and UT is from my perspective a part of it - I know very well and since a long time what problems results when companies have the possibility of influencing masses of people. And this effects not only wired right orientated ones!

If I think about how masses of people could be teached which plattforms they should use to avoid all these negative developements - so this initiative above is one of the best things I ever read.

    • All german public authorities and private companies could be forced stopp using Twitter, Fb & Co.

Stefan Brink: "If they do not stopp using Twitter we could dispose it" This counts for all authorities AND private companies - not for privates.

Same could happen for Fb and also WA - if they do not change the business model (a bit)

PureOS can only be tested on a PC or you have to order future Librem 5. I haven't found a development for another phone which can be tested?!

LuneOS with a version from the end of last year can be tested on a Nexus 4+5: http://build.webos-ports.org/releases/doppio/images/

I will also try it πŸ˜‰

    • RE: Observations on battery life - please share your experiences

Since I installed the actual Release-channel-update the battery management of the Nexus 5 improved a lot. The time where I do not have to charge the phone at least doubled - or even more.

This morning I had a bigger loss - maybe the problem is not totally solved - but now it is really better than good!

    • RE: Kr00K and Ubuntu Touch

Here the german environmental minister wants to introduce "a right to repair" for customers owning any smartphone. Of course she means at first the hardware - but what helps hardware without actual software.

I guess we will come out with round about 10 years smartphone guaranty. Maybe android has to be staying up-to-date for this time - or something else....

@dobey said in Kr00K and Ubuntu Touch:

Regardless of manufacturer support of hardware.

It sounds as a nice compromise - source code has to be published when manufacturer will not support hardware anymore.

Yes I understand - I am just thinking about legislative rules - if something like that is not already in place. This would be easily created.

I mean if a company does not want to make further support - ok, no problem - but than they have to publish the code so that people could develop it for themselves. Until nobody reclaims the need nothing would probably happen. But if that would not help because old kernels... I understood that not published drivers is a big problem in the developement of ut!?

@poVoq Never happen during the last years on my N5. I had somtimes the situation that the phone was black - but not off. If u press off-buttom for more than 5 seconds.

I never had a phone which needs a remarkable amount of energy while beeing off. This problem I only know from a Sony Vaio - never had on any other device.
