Noob Redmi 7 question
-
Hi there,
I was going to purchase a Redmi 7 to try UT on. Is this the right model:
?
I didn't see "onclite" anywhere in the description.
Thanks,
Matt

Hi, it look like the good one, i have it since 2 weeks, good for me.
I posted a review in the same time than your question, i feel a bit less alone with this phone.
Be careful the UBport installer doesn't work so the installation is not very easy if you're a real noob but I manage to done it and i'm not a advanced user. -
Excellent, thank you for the reply! Yes, I saw that there isn't an installer script - thanks for pointing that out. I'll be sure to document my adventures.
Thanks again,
Matt

I also have purchased the Redmi 7. I am finding a lot of videos for the note 7, and the 7a, but not the 7. I am also very much a noob. There is a difference in the hardware of the phones. Is there a difference in the install method? Also, if someone has used Ubuntu to install UT, and made a video that would be most helpful. I do not own a windows box.

Hi @mixamatchi,
I'm not sure but I thinks you don't need windows cause there is an adb for ubuntu.
For sure a video can be good, but maybe UBports installer can support this devices soon or... do the video!
I'm thinking about it but this not a funny thing for me.
It's sure this is not clear for everyone when your are on this page : https://github.com/Vin4ter/Ubports-Onclite-redmi7/blob/master/README.mdYou have to create a "mi" account to unlock the bootloader first.
You have to enable the develloper mode.
You need the driver for your phone on the computer.
Enter in fastboot mode.
You need adb.
You need to install TWRP.
And then you can flash the kernel, haluim...https://www.androidexplained.com/redmi-7-unlock-bootloader/
I found all the steps here and I realise aftr that there are also on the Ubports doc.
I hope it's helpfull.

For the install, i don't know the difference with the note and 7a, but i will be more buggy if it's even works.
