I was given a Samsung NP-Q1U/000/SEA. I think it would be fun to get something running on it.

        Specs:
        600MHz Intel Processor A100 CPU
        1GB (1x1GB) RAM
        40GB Hard Drive
        Intel GMA 950 Graphics
        7" Touch Screen LCD
        802.11b/g Wi-Fi

I see in a few places that "Ubuntu Mobile" was installed, but I can't find a download of it. Anyone have a copy?

@imwacc0 Not to burst any bubbles but I am pretty sure this is something that isn't Ubuntu Touch. It's likely something from the experimental phase of Ubuntu on Mobile, which was basically layering on top of Android. I don't know if it's supported at all by, well, anyone.

What is a fun question is what can we get running on that mobile if you aren't locked. That will be interesting. The mobile world, as a long time linux user, is one of figuring out what runs on the devices you bought. Hopefully an experimenter with your device has an answer.

@imwacc0 I would assume this is a notebook/netbook and I think what you saw as Ubuntu Mobile was the old Ubuntu desktop running the first version of Unity even before they shipped normal Ubuntu with Unity.

@totalrando No, it was what Touch changed into https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ubuntu_Touch#Ubuntu_Mobile

It's a full install, on a HDD. The OS that came with it is/was "WinXP Tablet".

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MobileTeam/Mobile "the standard Ubuntu i386 platform as well" I guess that means that the Intel A100 is a i386?

Better idea of specs https://www.umpcportal.com/products/Samsung/Q1 Ultra/Q1U-XP

P.S. DistroWatch says there's not much that will run on a i386. Bodhi Linux seems to be my best bet.

                  Hi @imwacc0
I would see if raspbian would work with touchscreen in this case, because of the low spec. I read somewhere that the touch interface is supported within the kernel. I know Gnome would work out of the box but it would probably be to heavy for this.

@imwacc0 if it's a x386 chipset you have a few options in the Linux world. I'd defer to greater minds on this but there are a couple options, such as Raspbian mentioned above. Wonder if there is a Puppy Linux that would work

@totalrando I myself like elive for older hardware, but that sometimes has a couple hurdles to make it work

Whether you think you can, or you can't, if you do not try, you will never truly know. So give it a Go.

I've downloaded a few Linux to try: Puppy, DSL(N), Mint, Tiny Core, and now elive.

The problem is going to be, the A100 is non PAE

But I would still rather try Mobil

What I found on the web was these two alternatives:

                          https://news.softpedia.com/news/Moblin-Mobile-Linux-Initiative-from-Intel-60138.shtml

                          https://linux.softpedia.com/get/System/Operating-Systems/Other/Ubuntu-MID-39213.shtml

They are from the right period as the cpu so they might work.

That Ubuntu link did not work, this did https://linux.softpedia.com/get/System/Operating-Systems/Linux-Distributions/Ubuntu-MID-Edition-46455.shtml

                            Got Moblin, https://linux.softpedia.com/get/System/Operating-Systems/Linux-Distributions/Moblin-46348.shtml

                            Thanks for the hints
