I have tried a few calls using the speakerphone mode and every time no one can hear me or I am very distorted, breaking up and virtually incomprehensible. Mic works fine in non speakerphone mode and works in the Recording app, but recording volumes are very low for both. Plugging in a headset seems to get slightly louder recordings but doesn't really address the call problem with the mic. The Volume app in the Open store does not seem to do anything to fix the issue.

Is anyone else dealing with this?

@rdl85 I have the same problem on my pixel 3a. At first, I thought it was the case surrounding the phone interfering with the mic. But, as you noted, audibility of my voice is fine when off the speakerphone. Any bug fixes set for this?

@trwidick A bug report was opened in Github/Ubiport in August 20th. It seems like nobody touched this issue since then. I have been using a wireless headset to go around the loud speaker problem for calls but that is not a solution to the problem since the mic volume is low for everything that uses the microphone. Here it is the link to the bug report in github: https://github.com/ubports/ubuntu-touch/issues/1808

This is an issue affecting Pixel 3a, Pixel 3a XL, Nexus 5 and OnePlusOne models afaik. It looks like nobody knows how to solve it yet or those who know have no time to put into this at the moment. If this was Ubuntu I would be troubleshooting with Pulse Audio, probably, but I know nothing about UT. If anybody here could guide us we might be able to start something.

@melu9wuv I thought it was my case, also. Any news on other fixes (I read the problem thread) for this?

@melu9wuv and others, @fredldotme has made this patch for halium to address the distorted speakerphone mic issue for the p3a: https://github.com/Halium/hybris-patches/pull/36

Yeah I'm sorry it took so long. I hope the change will be reviewed by someone else soon as typical procedure before inclusion works.

This leaves us with voice call volume changes not working as the last issue. And please for the love of God, if you know someone who can help with this, let me know. 🙂

I think if you are on the "Devel" channel the fix will be automatically applied.

In System Settings > Updates > "Gear" you will see "Channels". Click that and choose "Development". Then go back to Updates and you should see the Download option, and then Install.

Note that being on "Development" can mean than some unstable things will come through, but for the fixes you mention it is the way to get them "early". In a few weeks "stable OTA-22" will come out and that will have the fixes. So at that time you could change back to "stable" and in then install OTA-22 to be in the safest place.

There are other good things in "Devel" right now such as better battery life, GPU acceleration, etc, that again will all get to OTA-22 if you can wait a few weeks.

@billboy5690 You need to swipe the gray rectangle towards the green one and let go
