        Hello UBports Community,

I have been following the development of Ubuntu Touch off and on since it was first announced. Recently, I have become much more interested in diving into the UT world - so much so, that I am posting my very first message with questions for those way more seasoned than me.

My desire is to have a more recent Flagship level Smartphone featuring: a stable port of UT, Anbox, Full Camera support and Convergence. To this end, I have been considering the Sony Xperia 1 Mark II. From my research, there doesn't appear to be any UT work being done for this device currently.

        Questions:

+How viable and realistic would a UT Port for the Sony Xperia 1 Mark II be?

+How long does a Stable Port take to achieve?

+Before beginning a UT port, is there anyway to know if the following are achievable for this device: Anbox, Full Camera support and Convergence?

Thanks for your time and have a blessed day.

        CS

          Please read https://docs.ubports.com/en/latest/porting/

          1. Unlikely. It needs a Lineage OS port first, then that turned into a Halium port before you can port Ubuntu Touch. Current UT ports are based off of Halium 7.1 and 9 which is Android 7.1 and 9. So with that phone having Android 11 it is really unlikely unless you really know what you are doing.

          2. That depends on how you define stable?
            Doesn't crash? Not too long.
Has every feature? Keep following to find out when at least one phone actually has everything working and then you will know.

          3. IMHO Anbox is nothing more than a gimick. It is terrible right now and with all these Android 9+ phones having A/B partitions, dual boat is far easier and actually works. Just be sure to install a degoogled OS on the other partition and never use OTA updates on the Android one.
I do not think any UT phone has true Full Camera Support with everything you get on Android with the same phone.
Convergence is not as useful as it sounds currently.

I think the fastest phones right now being ported are the Oneplus 6/6T, Pocophone F1 and then I think it is the Pixel 3 series. The Oneplus 6/6T, Pocophone are a community devices and is not ready for daily use unless you are willing to have things not work. The Pixel 3 series is much closer as it is being developed by the core team. But again it will take time before being 100% if it is ever reached.

OnePlus One with UT OTA-15 daily driver. I would be testing the Halium 7.1 port if I could roll back to OTA-15

Just to add that even if the core team is working on it doesn't mean that one cannot help if they can.

@applee said in Sony Xperia 1 Mark II...:

Just to add also, that simply because individual members of the core team are working on a device, does not guarantee any particular level of support either. Since they also do this in their spare time.
