Wireless Charging experience
-
I've been using a wireless charger with my Volla phone for a couple of weeks and just solved a wireless charging issue and thought what I learned might be useful information.
- I've been using a 'Qi Charging Pad'
- I read that the GS290 wireless charging uses the NFC hardware and enabled NFC in System Settings but this may not have been necessary.
- Charging has been working fine but wireless is quite a slow way to charge a phone
When I needed to switch back to USB cable charging, the phone went through all the right UI indications that the phone was charging both while switched on and switched off, but the battery charge never increased. Restarting the phone did not solve the problem. I found that wireless charging still worked and that changing the USB cable did not help. Eventually I thought of disabling NFC in case using two charging methods was the issue but this had no effect either. The phone claimed to be charging but the charge did not increase. Then I tried restarting again after I had disabled NFC, and charging by USB cable immediately started working perfectly again.
So it looks like you can currently either have NFC disabled and use USB charging only, or have NFC enabled and have wireless charging only. To switch between them toggle NFC on/off in system settings and restart the phone.
I noticed on the UBports device page it shows Volla wireless charging as supported and NFC as not supported, so maybe Volla have some fine tuning to do around this feature.
As for the wireless charger I've decided its most suited to things like wireless earbuds that charge quite quickly, but phone charging by USB is best for me.

I have no Volla and has only used wireless charging on a Nexus 5 but I don't think NFC has anything to do with wireless charging. First of all, I doubt your charging pad has NFC unless maybe it's smart or something?

@kugiigi Thanks. I've investigated a bit further. I'm using a Qi charger not an NFC charger (although NFC charging technology does exist apparently) so the NFC being enabled or disabled wasn't affecting the wireless charging of the Volla phone at all.
It looks like it was just a coincidence that charging by USB started working after I switched off NFC andd rebooted
Ive tried out a few combinations of things and everything is working correctly.
I'm going to put the USB charging problem down to the battery being down to 4%. I've seen another comment about the Volla phone acting strangely at times below 10% charge. Possibly switching off NFC reduced the load on the low battery enough to get USB charging working again. Or it was all just a glitch.
Worth raising the issue though in case a pattern starts to emerge with other Volla users.
