Required Android stock rom version for Xiaomi Redmi 7?

Great that the installer for the Xiaomi Redmi 7 is there. In the instruction for the installation it says:

Install the required Android/stock rom version ¹

¹ Devices generally require a specific version of Android/stock rom to be installed. This depends on the halium version the port is build on. For example, if the port is based on halium 9, make sure you have Android version 9 installed before running the installer.

On which halium version is the current port of the Redmi 7
built on?

I think it's halium 9 but not sure.
Did you try the installer wich maybe will give you the rom to install ?
Or even better, try asking @Danct12 or @erfanoabdi who are the porters.

Hi,
If you never flashed your phone before it should be OK with the android came with the phone.
Be sure that you unlocked bootloader before.

The stock ROM is Android 9. Make sure you unlock the bootloader an follow the instructions - there is no other way around it, you have to use the Mi unlock tool. Even if you had to down grade or upgrade a ROM, the bootloader has to be unlocked. Once unlocked, do NOT lock it again, you will have a high chance of bricking the device.

Thanks, friends for your advice. I found on Youtube, if you don t have a lot of money, buy a Redmi 7 for Ubports. That is also my opinion. To unlock the bootloader seems not to be so easy. I managed to the point where I plugged in the Redmi 7 into the PC, and it was not recognized by the PC. Everything reminds me a bit of when I flashed my first Android custom ROM. There is another video on Youtube which explains what to do when your device is not recognized by the Unlock Tool . There is a whole science behind it. I bought another Redmi 7 on ebay. It looked completely different than the first one. Then I found out that it is a Redmi 7a. Do you think it is a problem? Android version is 9, bootloader already unlocked.

I don't see 7a in device list, i don't think it's the same, get device codename, if different from 7 non a, it'll not work i believe.

@peter-gamma Make sure you have USB drivers for the phone installed along with ADB and fastboot drivers. Make sure the phone's unlock bootloader tab is checked and follow the instructions to the letter - the phone must have a working SIM with data and you must have the phone linked to an Xiaomi account. And you must switch Wi-Fi off. Once that is done reboot the phone to fastboot mode and open up the unlock tool and sign into the account you have linked the phone to. It should pick the phone up. If it doesn't try another cable, try another USB port, make sure the phone charge is above 90%.
The Redmi 7a has different hardware and there is no port for it (yet?) on the UT installer.

Thanks for your ansers. The Redmi 7a has the codename Pine. There is an installation instruction on Youtube for Redmi 7a, but it is very long. Thanks for your detailed explanation. I will try the second video on Youtube which was also helpful. If got also a Poco F1 to flash, which I love for it s usb-c port and because of Joels port. I will definitely become a Ubports and Linux user because of the many Linux phones, Linux AsteroidOS watches and Linux Nano PCs which are available. The time is gone when you had to carry around a Laptop with Matlab for sensor data acquisition .
