"Flash system partitions using fastboot" Check? or Uncheck?
-
I'm trying to install UT on a Pixel 3a & I don't know if I should leave the "flash system partitions using fastboot" box checked or uncheck it. The bootloader on my phone is unlocked & USB debugging is enabled so I'm hoping I won't have any problems, but I can't find any guidance on when I should check/uncheck the fastboot box. Can anyone help...?

Yes leave that box checked. You have followed this thread?

Thanks for your reply MrT10001. Here's the background:This will be my 3rd attempt at using the UB installer on my phone. My first two were really bad installs. In fact, after the 2nd I spent a day thinking my phone was bricked until I managed to get it rebooted. I tracked the problem down to a bad USB cable so am going to try again. But I really don't want to kill this phone so I'm trying to make sure I'm following all the steps in the documentation (& everything I can find in the forums) but I'm not seeing anything that says when to use the fastboot option & when not to. Why does the box have a checkmark option if you always leave it checked?
Am I missing something...?
(And thanks for the link to the thread. I've restored it to Android 9.0 & I'll make sure to wipe userdata on the next UT attempt.)

@parin1213 One way to look at it is to try unticking it and see what happens, if it works, it works good. If an error is thrown up, restart the process and tick it. I leave it ticked, but generally leave the wipe partitions unticked as the older phones such as the Nexus4 or nexus 5 timed out and rebooted waiting for the UT download after the wipe.
I haven't gone into great depth yet, but ADB (android debug Bridge) is at a higher level and bridges Android to another device, i.e. PC.
Fastboot is kind of a low level access to the bootloader and recovery partition of the phone which allows these areas to be written to when unlocked. -

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I understand this a little clearer now. I will go ahead & try again using the settings recommended. Thanks! -
