You may enter into recover mode and mount system partition, chroot and setup your passwd or simply replace passwd file

There is no root password out of the box on Ubuntu Touch. Root access is gained via sudo. When prompted the password is that of the phablet user`. If you can unlock the phone, then you know that password already.

I think the problem very is that he doesn't remember the unlock code.

@keneda That is an odd way of phrasing then...

Maybe because unlock code is also the one used for "root acces" on apps like File Manager or when launching UTTT.

@keneda yes, but if it is forgotten, then the first place you encounter it is to unlock the device. So it would be more likely to be referenced as such.

Now it comes over like the device can be unlocked, but that operations cannot be done that require a password prompt. Makes me wonder if an unlock code has been set.

It might be set to unlock by swipe.

@moem In that case there is no user password, and the answer given will lock the OP out of their device.

When you forget your account password, you can easily reset it using a root account. But when you forget your root account password, then you're in a bad situation. You can't reset your root account password using a regular user account, as a user account can't perform such tasks in general parafrase tool.

In some situations, you may need to access an account for which you've lost or forgotten a password.

@ridinoh130 this would work for a regular Ubuntu installation, but not for Ubuntu Touch.
