3a XL "..not supported"

I flashed my 3a XL with the recommended image before starting, 9.0.0 (PQ3B.190801.002, Aug 2019), but I get "Device not supported" when I run the UBports Installer (0.9.5-beta) from my linux mint desktop. I plan to 'Select device manually', but this seems strange to me. The phone is reported as 'Progress 100%'.
