Today I received notification that another update ist available.

I found "Version 3". The previous one was "Version 2". So I tapped "Download and Install".

The device shut down and didn't restart by itself.
Therefore I pushed the POWER button and it booted up.
I found that the update was merely downloaded. Therefore I pressed "Install".

Again the device shut down and didn't restart by itself.
This time however I was unable to boot it up again. I stuck on the "Lenovo" logo.

I booted into Recovery in order to check the file /cache/ubuntu_updater.log. It said that the update version-3.tar.xz was applied which was the intended one (see above).

Then - still in Recovery - out of curiosity I pressed "Mount" with no result at all, "Graphic test" which just showed some installed graphics, and another "... test" (can't remember the name).

I decided to give it one last desperate try and pressed "Power down" which shut down the device.

To my surprise (and joy) after pushing POWER - the device booted.

I have no idea what might have happened. Can anyone make sense of this? @Luksus ?

Has anyone else made an update?

@muskist maybe it is something RC-Channel specific? My last updates in devel-channel went well.
Except of booting after the update took place. But then I just disconnected the tablet from any power-source, shut it off with long power press and then started it again - it booted normally.

I will test to switch to RC-channel and see what happens...

I did it and it was a bit strange...:

          • I switched the update channel in the update-settings
          • it still displayed the dev channel, but RC version 3 still got downloaded
          • I hit install & update button
          • after some time the screen got black before it attempted to restart, so it seemed like lomiri (the desktop environment) crashed
          • I did a long power button press, until it restarted
          • the device booted, lomiri desktop loaded and crashed again with black screen, after some seconds it rebooted by itself and the second boot went well -> that occasionally happens for me for some weeks in the devel channel now... also on other devices.
          • I changed the update channel again in the settings and now RC also was displayed after selecting it
          • the previous download was still there, so a new download was not necessary
          • I hit install & update again, now it rebooted to recovery and did the update process
          • after finishing, the device rebooted itself and it got stuck at boot screen again
          • I shut it off, booted to recovery and hit the reboot button in the recovery
          • now the device booted successfully (I don't remember, if it needed another extra-round because of another lomiri-crash-black-screen)

So, that the X605 gets sometimes stuck at the boot screen, I would call it something like "known issue" of this device. But of course it should not happen on every update.

I got that update today on the release channel. Made sure the power lead was not in. Installed and went through fine with no issues.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 7.... And more...
            I have too many devices...

              @luksus
Kind of similar to what I encountered. Looks like the device is kind of capricious... 😝
