pixel 3a OTA 23 video recording. file not viewable

@fredldotme Since you know what changes have been made, do you think the videos could be reverted to some readable format by converting them or sth, or are they just meaningless megabytes now ? Thanks for your work.
-
@emphrath If ffmpeg can handle them, then possibly. Other than that there is probably not much you can do. I know it sucks and probably hurts me the most (since I want to provide the features users care about) but yeah, don't know..
-
@emphrath Okay I have pushed a potential fix now, tomorrow's devel update should include it. In the meantime, try to copy your beloved videos to your PC, try to open them, and attempt to fix them with ffmpeg if possible.
-
-
@fredldotme No worries and thanks for the tip. I do know and love ffmpeg, but mostly command line. You're talking about a gui app, right ? And surely i'll try something but I would at least need to know what problems do I want to fix ^^
-
Btw for some reason vlc on android plays the sound of the video - which ut media can't do.
-
@fredldotme Hello there. The update on devel does give some video playback for videos that were recorded today - but only half of the video at best, and jagged color patterns may appear at the beginning or end.
-
@emphrath you mean during playback on the device itself? Have you tried watching them on a PC yet?
Also, I would suggest against UT Media app, it doesn't support hardware acceleration. -
@fredldotme I mentioned this morning that video playback works. And it did. Bit turns out this is only with short videos of under a minute. Now I made one of 3 minutes long and it doesn't play back either, I am sorry to report.
-
@fredldotme I don't have access to a PC and I won't before a long time. I ran ffmpeg through libertine and it did the job during my attempts to fix my old videos. For example, a mp4 to mp4 conversion yields a file the same size, but with the real duration attached, and a fix image. I run my playbacks with vlc on waydroid, which behaved the same way as media player for videos taken after your devel fix: black screen and sound at the beginning, and after a couple of seconds, the actual vidzo kicks in.
-
@fredldotme Same device, and on no channel video playback is possible. I changed channels several times and did several reboots. Now on devel with his mornings update same game
-
@messayisto The devel fix DOES work to some extent: you won't be able to read the videos you took after OTA23 but you should be able to play the ones you shot after moving to devel
-
@emphrath Yes, that works now - thanks to you guys for fixing it. I stay on devel (it was 1004 that did the trick) for a while, maybe I can test some things from time to time. But I am only a enthusiastic fan.
-
@messayisto what do you mean ? Can you shoot a video and play it without issues ? 1004 didn't change anything on my part - black start, then a bit of video
-
@emphrath I was on 1001, and that only worked on short videos. But after reading @messayisto post I updated to 1004 yesterday and I could shoot long videos and they would playback fine for me too. I have tried 720p and 1080p.
-
@arubislander ok, 1005 kinda did it for me. It's not fixed though. The video does play from the start but I guess it actually starts a couple of milliseconds late because sound does not match. It may look fine, until you start recording someone talking or you snap your fingers. It was not this way before, and VLC on waydroid shows the same playback issues. We're getting there though ^^ Could you guys check that video and sound match on your devices ?
-
@emphrath Indeed! I never record videos with my phone, so I didn't think to test this. But you are right audio is like up to 1 second behind the video on 1004 (I haven't updated yet today)
-
@arubislander same with me, sound is not simultaneously in 1005.
-
It's actually very unstable. The results seem to vary wildly from one test to another. For example, the behaviour we just described only holds for very short videos. I tried a long-ish video today (about a minute) and I don't even have an image, plus the duration is messed up again (shows an hour long video) and that's a regression there. Are you folks testing playback with a computer ? Because as much as media player definitely should be able to play the videos, presently the dev branch has hardware acceleration messed up - youtube plays very badly while it's smooth on stable.
-
@emphrath How long is long-ish?
I have tested with videos of 4+ mins. And I replay on the phone.
-
@arubislander OK, I made a 30 min long video (takes 30 mins to make one, lol). Just the sound plays, no video image. This is playing it back on the phone.
EDIT. I played all of the file. It looks like the audio and video is so much out of sync that the audio starts playing long before the video starts. About halfway through the reported length of the media file the video shows up. This seems to be an issue of the audio and video being severely out of sync.
