I got another ......Be patient, be very patient...
-
Well, I have got hold of another TB-X605, but this time it is the 'L' version which is LTE and has the SIM card port.
It came with Android 9, so required a UT install to make it better....It went really well and quickly using the 0.9.6 installer and the Stable channel, not the RC channel.
Just be patient when you unlock the device. You know you are in Fastboot mode when you are at the Lenovo splash screen and there is in tiny red "FastBoot Mode" in one of the corners. It took the device 15 minutes to boot back into Android after the bootloader was unlocked and stayed at the Lenovo screen for most of that time - so be patient and let it get back to Android.
Then just follow the instructions, making sure you unplug the device from the PC to boot into recovery.
So I now have to test the SIM side of things out when I get a chance...
Great stuff @Luksus and thanks again for the heads up on the Stable channel with OTA-23.

@mrt10001 Hi, I still haven't installed ut on my X605L would be good when you can confirm the sim works, thanks

@tiendas I have the L version too and SIM works in general.
But you can't do phone calls with it. Only SMS/MMS and Data.
I don't really understand why, but in Android it is the same. It seems to be some hardware limitation. -
@luksus Apparently some one had a work round for voice calls in Android - I didn't investigate further as I am having issues with the battery always showing 100%. I spent an age getting it to boot back up. I was on stable, but have reverted to RC. I have started another thread on this.
