OP 5 Focal Install
-
@arubislander Good thanks nit just me then.
-
@arubislander Do you use the installer to update or a terminal command? The installer is fine for OP5 but my 3a fails for some reason at times and needs a back to stock to work.
-
@lakotaubp I use the installer. Have tried it with and without bootstrappping. Both install, but both don't allow updating via recovery.
Have you tried installing 16.04 instead of going back to stock?
-
@arubislander When the pixel plays up nothing works till it is reflashed with stock. Today despite picking 20.04 it installs 16.04 !! twice that has happened. Which is why I was wondering about terminal commands. Still that needs to be in the 3a thread not here.
-
@lakotaubp my bad. I thought we were that thread.
-
@arubislander No I started the mix.
-
GPS works
-
Weather app works
-
Anyone have updates install without using the installer yet? Other than that and the sound on alarms not working this is a basic dd now.

Hi, just exploring my new OP5T for a few days now running focal (devel 106).
Many things work just fine, although a few things I would like to mention and if possible get some feedback if that is only broken on my end or a general issue.
- two sim cards inserted: on bootup I am not asked for the sim pin's, I need to manually unlock them e.g. via network indicator
- two sim cards inserted: only if both are unlocked mobile data on card 1 is connected
- position is always on after a reboot, it does not remember its state
- when turning on MMS data point, I don't get internet=mobile data connected, when turning off mms, mobile data instantly connects
- I received a call, mobile data would not reconnect after finishing that call (flight mode on/off sorted that)
And if I could wish for something, would be great to get wireguard patch in the kernel.
So, enough for now. . Would love to get some feedback.

@danfro I have moved the post to the Focal section to save it getting lost in the 16.04 stuff.
-
@lakotaubp thanks. I thought that was a focal issue thread. But yeah, the dates would not fit.
-
@danfro No problem One thing I'm waiting for is the OP5 to install updates without needing the installer, so if you spot that let us know.
-
@lakotaubp I will let you know. I can only say, not yet today.
-
@danfro May I ask if there is any progress here? And is there already a recommended way for an upgrade: update channel or fresh install, with or without wipe etc? thank you.
-
@messayisto Did a fresh install without a wipe yesterday (04/03/23). App updates install fine, but still having to use the installer to upgrade.
-
@messayisto I did start with a clean new install, so not sure about upgrading. So a clean install is likely to make the least problems.
There where several users (several devices, not OP5T specific) having trouble with reinstalling app, mainly core apps. This might be due to the fact, that those have been renamed. The change in namespace basically makes them a "new" app. There is work going on to provide migration tools, but that is currently in testing stage, not released yet.
With OP5T I still need to run the installer for every update, no change here.
The position switch thing (3.) is only an indicator issue. We need to use the switch in system settings. That works.
The reconnection issue (5.) is due to a timer checking every few minutes (as far as I understood). So when a call is ended, it may reconnect quite soon or may take a few minutes until the next check cycle.
So if you can afford to do a clean install, I would prefer that. But I know there where also some easy 16.04 -> 20.04 installs without wipe that did work fine as well. I assume it depends a bit on what you have installed.
No Axolotl yet on focal.
In the end, you can try a install without wipe going from 16.04 to 20.04. If that does not work out, you can always do a clean install with wipe. Backup is a good idea regardless . I hope that helps.

Just want to share the news here, that on focal devel channel the OP5T now allows installing via system settings. No installer needed anymore. Big thanks to Ratchanan!
-
Just dropping some rather bad news here, but currently OP5T is also affected by this bug: https://github.com/ubports/ubuntu-touch/issues/2022
After a phone call other apps, like camera app, will not record sound. A reboot fixes this - until the next call. The service implementation of the script (to autostart it) described in the issue will not work under focal (or I did something wrong).
-
@danfro luksus42 did add a focal implementation of the workaround to the issue. Although mind one hint given by Jami. Then it works.
