OP 5 Focal Install
-
Flashed two OP5 today with Focal.
One had been wiped and had a fresh 16.04 on it so no user data just basic initial setup. Just installed 20.04 over the top and all seems well as far as Focal is working (not tried making calls yet have no spare sim).
The other had been in daily use till a few weeks ago so full of app user data and so on. Flashed that again without wipe. Install went well then phone rebooted and opened on what would be the choose language page except no language options available to pick. Rebooted - still the same. Tried flashing again as a check all progressed well but with same result, no languages to pick.
Not trying again today might wait till someone else does and see how they get on, don't want to use the wipe option yet.Edit: Did try again (I'm inpatient ) went back to 16.04
then 20.04 and ......still the same. No language to select so no way forward. That is it for today. -
@lakotaubp Indeed, this is also how it would be for me on the Pixel 3a, and the reason I would always wipe data when flashing 20.04.
I haven't tried going from 16.04 to 20.04 lately though

@arubislander Yes wipe is needed. Without it only 10 files get downloaded when you use wipe 11 files are downloaded which is what I got on the first one.

Next problem updates do not install. Phone restarts and reboots to recovery and sits there. Unlike Pixel 3a being conected to power does not help install update. Rebooting from recovery restarts system but update is still there not installed. Oh well early days and theres still the installer. Will have another look later today.
-
@lakotaubp yes confirmed for Pixel3a at least
-
@lakotaubp said in OP 5 Focal Install:
Updates do not install. Phone restarts and reboots to recovery and sits there
Exactly like I have been seeing on Xperia X.
-
@lduboeuf This is a regression then. Updates used to install in 20.04 in the Pixel 3a. But as was said, early days.
-
@arubislander Updates work fine onthe 3a as long as it is connected to power to install it. On the OP5 they don't install full stop.
-
Redmi Note 7 was a blank canvas, only basic phone, messaging, System and Browser. Update available would not install. I have another to do more testing with, just waiting for Xiaomi to allow me to unlock the bootloader on my own phone.
-
Got that wrong 16.04 installed now to work out why
-
@lakotaubp Is Wifi working again? Does anybody know?
-
@messayisto Working on my OP5 with todays update.
-
04/12 Todays update does not boot past Fastboot after completing. Will update when have tried again later.
-
Just tried the installer again and OP5 boots correctly.
-
Does anyone else have an issue with daily updates installing? Mine go as far as booting to recovery.
-
@lakotaubp I haven't been able to install updates on Focal for at least since OTA-24 for xenial was released. (I know the two are unrelated, just establishing a time frame).
-
@arubislander Good thanks nit just me then.
-
@arubislander Do you use the installer to update or a terminal command? The installer is fine for OP5 but my 3a fails for some reason at times and needs a back to stock to work.
-
@lakotaubp I use the installer. Have tried it with and without bootstrappping. Both install, but both don't allow updating via recovery.
Have you tried installing 16.04 instead of going back to stock?
-
@arubislander When the pixel plays up nothing works till it is reflashed with stock. Today despite picking 20.04 it installs 16.04 !! twice that has happened. Which is why I was wondering about terminal commands. Still that needs to be in the 3a thread not here.
