Waydroind on the volla Phone X23

@treebeard I gave it a go on the X23 using WayDroid Helper, and the installer doesn't progress beyond 'preparing to install system image'. The progress bar doesn't show any activity either.

I've made several attempts include directly after rebooting, and tried waiting up to 20 minutes.

This morning I'm trying again and waiting up to 2 hours to see if anything happens.

I tried waiting 6 hours with no progress on the Volla X23 from 'preparing to install system image'.

I might look at logfiles tomorrow.

@treebeard Concerning waydroid on the Volla X23, you should ask Hallo Welt Systeme directly, especially since I seem to have seen on a Volla Volla OS page bug report that Erfan who develops Waydroid for UT works for H W S. I would advise you to be careful in the experiments as long as the Volla X23 is not yet (if i'm not wrong) in the UBports installer to be able to reflash it easily.

@domubpkm Very wise words. I hadn't realised X23 wasn't in the flashing tool yet.

I've emailed HW asking about Waydroid on the X23. I'll take my time now.

FYI The current issues I'm aware of for the X23 are:

1. X23 Not in flashing tool yet
2. Requires Notch hack (see separate thread) which makes time visible in rounded corner but requires further adjustment as icons still obscured by notch.
3. Headphone socket - no sound
4. Waydroid Helper unable to install Waydroid.

1, 2, and 4 are basically due to the phone being a brand new model and tools/apps needing to catch up.

Waydroid on latest X23 development/RC channel builds now works but there's some big caveats to using it right now, see https://gitlab.com/ubports/porting/reference-device-ports/halium12/volla-x23/volla-vidofnir/-/issues/1 for more details

@deathmist Thanks for the description for the Volla X23. Is there a similar method for the Volla 22 under Focal-OTA2 ?

@sven No such trickery should be needed on the 22, did you have issues using Waydroid Helper from OpenStore? Perhaps join https://t.me/waydroidonut to discuss your issue further

@deathmist Good to hear. But I tried the Waydroid Helper method, which seemed to work, but crashed after some minutes of light use.

@deathmist I managed to follow the steps to get the two images and did a waydroid init f. (I have limited linux dev skills). Thank you for the information.!

I'm having trouble launching waydroid and am getting these errors. Do you have any suggestions how I can fix this issue? I wondered if I'm missing a prerequiste ?

(nb: I pasted several images together in places so the logs are a little mangled).

@treebeard Ive solved the issue. I followed a suggestion on the 'Waydroid OTA2' thread:

@Kjetil Try it from command line in terminal.

sudo waydroid upgrade
sudo waydroid init

Last command will say it is already initialized...

Then reboot

I then just needed to remember to use the show-full-ui command after starting waydroid
