Battery drain Focal OTA-2
-
@domubpkm I know where to place a bugreport (some of the listed bugs there are created by myself), but first of all I want to know, if I'm the only one who's affected or if other are also affected and this is a bug related to OTA-2
Btw: Why are you still on Xenial? I thought your only problem with Focal was the Hotspot-function that was not working until OTA-2? -
@kristatos said in Battery drain Focal OTA-2:
I thought your only problem with Focal was the Hotspot-function
No. As the Volla is my daily driver, no rush. Real stability planned for OTA-3. Also missing the essentials Tedit, UTTT, and some other great scripts that i use, which i hope will be ported to focal by the developer.

Hi,
i have had the same problem for a few days. Significantly more power consumption.
I have a volla phone on focal development channel. -
@Knalli73 Ok, thanks for your reply. So I'll create a bugreport for this.
-
@Knalli73 I found out, that connecting to the internet (via LTE or WIFI, both is working) seems to stop this process from running amok. Can you please verify if this helps also in your case?
Another option is to change the settings for date and time in the system-settings to manually. This also deactivates the service. -
@kristatos just an impression because I didn't try UT16 on my Pixel 3a, but the battery flies with UT20.04 !
-
@kristatos sorry for my late reply. Before i saw your post i had already updated devl and i thought the problem was a little better. Anyway, today i switched to stable ota2 and the problem is back. None of your suggestions made any difference. Not even airplane mode.
Tomorrow I will test the development channel again and will report back. -
@Knalli73 No problem. Have you checked with 'top' inside a terminal if it's the same process that causes this issue?
I think airplane mode will not help because the daemon will only stop stressing the cpu if there's an internet connection through which the date/time-sync via ntp could be done.
Here's is the bugreport but I don't know if it's really device-specific. -
@kristatos I checked with top and it looks like systemd-timesyncd is not the reason in my case.
I could not find a reason in general, but maybe I did not identify it.
Anyway, I switched to the development channel and the higher power consumption is gone so far. -
I recently installed UT on pixel 3a and yes battery drains way faster then it did don't android, May a future update will fix this issue.
