@trwidick Wish: Enhanced start menue
I'd like to be able to create directories to sort my apps.
Also I wonder if widgets were possible, e. g. the clock app to show current time at the desktop and the weather app its information, too.

RE: No SIM Card on Xiaomi Mi 8
@mrt10001 No starting from scratch necessary in my case. I found help at the telegram group "UBports Deutsch".
It was based on replacing the configuration file. Luksus42 tells that with the coming full-OTA-updates and also with the UBports-Installer this case is closed.
Dear readers, this is a solution for xiaomi-dipper devices only and doesn't suit all SIM absent problems so don't try it or at own risk. I advise being patient.

@bigmouth Ok, that has eliminated that. If it is still on the development channel the issue could lie there. The version of Android the phone was on has some bearing , was it Android 9? ( I have spent many hours reinstalling Android to roll it back and then getting Ubuntu touch to install).
I found it. For my device, it says Xiaomi Mi 8
Halium 9.0 | dipper and Halium 9.0 indicates Android 9, see for yourself here by clicking on Halium 9.0 -
RE: No SIM Card on Xiaomi Mi 8
@mrt10001 I haven't taken a look which android version it was. I can say, that after I had enabled wifi the phone did updates.
Can I manually install Ubuntu Touch from another channel? If so, can you lead me to the place to read?

@mrt10001 I am running a new install with wipe option. "Cleaning up - Formatting system partition" last long and longer. Windows does not report an error. I am waiting...

RE: No SIM Card on Xiaomi Mi 8
@mrt10001 New install without wipe has run fine. But no change. There is still no carrier, no SIM to find at the systemsettings not at SIM slot 2 nor 1. I even rebooted in between the SIM slot changes. No success.

No SIM Card on Xiaomi Mi 8
I am interested in a safe mobile phone. So I checked supported devices for a device which is supported and has good capabilities and was available for a reasonable price. I decided to give the Xiaomi Mi 8 a try.
I used ubports-installer at Windows 10 because at Linux there was no progress in the installation process. There were some difficulties to solve to get installation process finished and I was lucky. Ubuntu touch is running well, I connected it to Wlan but the SIM is not there. I knew I had to use the SIM2 slot to use the SIM with this device and Ubuntu-Touch. So, when I got it, prior to the Ubuntu Touch installation I used the preinstalled Android with the SIM and checked it working with success. I unlocked the boot loader and got developer option on to fully prepare the device.
Ubports wasn't able to identifiy the device, so I had to choose manually.
I tried SIM1 slot, too, but no change. The ubuntu Openstore does not have an alternative telefone app (yet), the systemsettings have no SIM entries. My hope is adb at least to get more information or even enable the SIM…
Any help available on this case? How to enable my german carrier SIM?
