Thanks for responding to my question. I bought a Pixel 3A phone so I can put Ubuntu Touch on it. The phone has not come to me with Ubuntu Touch installed on it. From what I understand I will be able to get Ubuntu Touch on my phone via a process where my computer and phone are working together with ADB on the computer and the ADB Daemond on the phone. So yes I need my computer in the beginning, right? On my Ubuntu computer I used the Synaptic Package Manager to install: ADB (along with: Android-libadb; android-libbase ; android-libboringssl ; android-libcrypto-utils ; android-libcutils ; android-log). Also, the process of getting Ubuntu Touch on a Pixel 3A necessitates that one get "Fastboot" on the phone. To get Fastboot the article I mentioned above offered a download for the computer. I guess the phone then gets the fastboot software from the computer??? I have the download, but Ubuntu's Synaptic Package Manager has it too, but an older version called: android-sdk-platform-tools-c 28,02+6. Have you heard of the software I mention in my original post?

UBPorts has some directions on how to do the install, but they are not complete. I have a new phone. It is barely out of its shipping box. I'm starting at square one. Does anything I mentioned above sound like part of the installation process that the UBPort's directions doesn't cover?

If people installing Ubuntu Touch on a Pixel 3A phone aren't doing what I'm doing, what are they doing? Do you have a complete set of instructions for me?

Google wasn't letting me sign into Google Play Services once I was at https://developers.google.com/android/images#sargo for version Android 9 otherwise known as image PQ3B/190801.002. Yes, I've saw the PQ3B/190801.002 page with the Google Play Services "sign in" at the top right corner of the phone, but No, I wasn't able to get it on my new Pixel 3A phone because as I just said I wasn't able to sign in. The reason may be because I do have a phone with an IMEI number that starts with 35 (arublislander info), or because Google doesn't like me using a NFC Yubikey. The reason may well be the latter reason because I was able to unlock the OEM. Anyway, I don't know what else to do. Probably I need to talk to Google, but I have never been able to do that very well. I basically just wanted a phone that I could learn more about Linux on, and use to text, and make an occasional call. A less expensive phone plan was going to be part of all this. I'm not a power user; I'm not really even a phone person. I wouldn't have been that hard to please. I wouldn't have been that critical of Ubuntu Touch on the Pixel 3A. Anyway, my problem is not your problem I do realize that. I will check back one more time, any help or suggestions you give me will be appreciated.

P.S. I uninstalled Telegram. I originally installed it because I heard the UBPorts Project manager (I think that was his title) mention it on a YouTube UBPorts kickoff conference video.

So, I went to https://devices.ubuntu-touch.io/device/sargo , and to me it looks like my phone needs to have Android 9 installed before using my Pixel 3A phone to go to the following site indicated in the Preparatory step.

Preparatory step
For Pixel 3A at site:
https://developers.google.com/android/images#sargo
Make sure to revert to factory image PQ3B.190801.002

Or is reverting to factory image PQ3B.190801.002 the same thing as installing Android 9?

Hi Guys,
Well, you all won't be too impressed with me today. I fumbled around for an embarrassingly long time and got to where I rebooted the bootloader, but after that I didn't see any way I could downgrade my Pixel 3A phone to Android 9.

On my Ubuntu computer I have: the UBPorts Installer. Android Studio, adb, fastboot, sdk-platform-tools, and sdk-manager. And on both my Pixel 3A and computer I have Telegram installed. I did message someone on the UBPortsTelegram group, but I'm new to Telegram. I was hoping to be able to talk rather than write messages. I figure that would make it easy for someone to help me. I'm not really a phone person, I just like linux and would like my phone more if it were on my phone. Anyway, I think Telegram is using my username: norm.

At the end of my day trying to get things to work, I shut down things mid process, so there is the possibility that nothing will ever works again.

I'm going to try again tomorrow probably around 1:00 California time. I can read any helpful advice you want to give me, or I can listen and talk; I've got a pair of headphones.

Thank you. I've read your three posts. I've read other things online about Ubuntu Touch, and have watched some YouTubes on the subject as well. I'm taking my time. I want to do it right. I do hope I get Ubuntu Touch installed on my phone in the end. While I'm making this post and thanking you all, I do want to ask another question. I read in a post that was a year and eight months old about how one was not able to re-lock the bootloader. Has progress been made on that since it was posted? After I get Ubuntu Touch installed on my Pixel 3A phone, will I be able to re-lock the bootloader?

On my Ubuntu computer I've got all my software and tools ect . through the Synaptic Package Manager. For example: android-sdk-platform-tools-c 28.02+6

I read an an article https://pixel.gadgethacks.com/how-to/unlock-bootloader-your pixel-3a-0198625/ and in the article a newer download was offered: platform-tools_r33.0.3-linux.zip

My question is: Am I asking for trouble going with the newer download. The site was an https site, but I don't know am I asking for trouble going with that download. Should I stick with the older download?
