  • RE: Using adb/fastboot after ubports installation

@mrt10001 When the device is unplugged, after holding volume- and power for long enough, it eventually boots into Ubuntu. Sometimes it takes 20 seconds sometimes it takes 60. It never loads the bootloader any more.

EDIT: ok I got it to show up with bootloader for about a second by holding power for 10 seconds as if I was turning it on as usual, then releasing when it vibrates, then volume down and repressing for another 10 seconds. Going to experiment some more.

EDIT 2: for anyone else who ends up with their device in the same state as mine: the trick was to continue holding down both buttons and click on the touch screen while still holding them down, and then I was able to release once it started the bootloader.

Thanks very much for the help! Hopefully I'll be good from here.

  • Using adb/fastboot after ubports installation

Hi, so my UBports is fully installed and I'm trying to switch from UBports to lineageos on my Oneplus6. I currently can't get the phone to show up under adb devices or fastboot devices. I've tried:

    • Plugging it in while powered on and in developer mode - shows up as Generic Device
    • Plugging it in while powered off - still shows up as Generic Device
    • Holding the volume+ and power buttons for 7 seconds while plugged in and then installing the fastboot driver onto the phone
    • Same as above but with the unsigned OnePlus USB driver after disabling signature enforcement on Windows

In all cases, typing either command shows a blank line. The one clue I've found so far is that the hardware IDs aren't present in either .inf file

    USB\VID_05C6&PID_9008&REV_0000
    USB\VID_05C6&PID_9008

Sorry if that's irrelevant, I'm not really sure what I'm looking for here 🙂

  • RE: Cannot receive text messages while 4G is enabled

I posted this to the Telegram channel linked above and this is what I got:

Ive had similar experiences with T-Mobile. When your phone (and my phone) is registered in LTE (4G), calls come in over the internet context (not the IMS context). And because your SMS messages should not come in over the internet context, they arrive until they stop arriving. So then, you have to register your phone in GSM (2G) or UMTS (3G) to receive them.
As you said, set the connection type to "2G/3G" and restart your phone.

Hmm ok 😕 are there any carriers that don't have issues with this phone? My 2G and 3G service in my bedroom is only working about half the time.

Ubuntu Touch works best as a 2G/3G phone. Support for 4G voice calling (i.e. VoLTE) is under active investigation.

So my understanding is this is a UBPorts USA problem and that all phones on every carrier don't receive text messages here unless you disable 4G.

  • Cannot receive text messages while 4G is enabled

Hi! So I recently bought a Oneplus 6 and a 3 month Mint sim card and installed 16.04 OTA-23. I can send calls and they work instantly, I can receive calls and they work instantly, I can send texts and they work instantly, but I can't receive texts unless I set the connection type to 2G or 2G/3G and then restart the phone. If I have it set to 2G/3G/4G I will sometimes receive texts that were sent while the phone was off or on 4G for like 5 seconds after the phone starts up, and then they stop working again. If I don't restart the phone after I turn off 4G I still can't receive any texts, even though the connection says it's connected to 3G and I'm able to successfully view webpages on 3G. I've tried both default APN settings (which I think were TMobile) and Mint's Ultra settings which I'm currently on. Turning wifi on and off has no effect. Can anyone suggest anything for me to try?
