The short answer is yes. Unity8.org will mainly focus on the desktop side and we will stick to what we're good at, and that is phones. This setup makes sense, because we are pushing for convergence, so we want the same apps to work across both platforms. The one thing we don't need is further fragmentation. 
We're in contact with the guys at unity8.org and Canonical to make the transition as smooth as possible.
