The 40th Ubuntu Touch Q&A will be taking place this Saturday. Yes that's the 40th Q&A since the creation of UBports. So put your thinking hats on and get those Ubuntu Touch questions in as soon as you can. Design, projects, development, community as long as its UBports Ubuntu Touch based send them in.
Then use the link below to watch live on Saturday

Translation of ubports.com/blog : blog posts are very valuable so it would be great if we could also translate them. Would it be possible to include the needed strings in translate.ubports.com ?

- What improvements and fixes for the Morph Browser are marked as "definitely will happen" for OTA-6? Biggest requests I have myself is to be able to sign into sites like Dropbox, and be able to upload files to various services via the browser itself.
- Any chance that camera zoom for the OnePlus One will get fixed in OTA-6 - or is this just a serious brickwall of an issue that will likely take much longer, if ever, to fix?
- Would UBports consider hosting crowd sourcing drives for specific native apps? E.g. on the Telegram channel there were two of us that were willing to put up $80 to help fund coding for a native Wire app - and I would be willing to donate $200 myself towards a native Lyft app. Seems to me if there was a place hosted on the UBports site where people could donate towards funding specific apps they desired - with any funds held in escrow by UBports itself - then greater funds could be raised, and the donors would have the confidence that their money would not be sent without a functional app getting delivered, and the coders would have the confidence that they would get all pledged monies as soon as they delivered the functional app.
- Has the UBports team received the Purism Librem 5 developer boards yet - and based on specs known so far, does it seem realistic that it will end up being a fully convergence capable device?
Best regards,
Steve Berson -
@TotalSonic I don't want to disappoint you here, but:
- We've added specific bugs at https://github.com/ubports/ubuntu-touch/issues/914
- If it's not on the milestone, we aren't targeting it. If someone fixes something and makes a PR, it will probably get in. It's possible that the nexus 5 issue won't get in since we've hit a brick wall on that, too.
- We don't like talking about specific bugs during the Q&A, otherwise it becomes a place for people to give "that bug affects me too" for an hour and it's no fun for anyone.
- We answered to the Librem 5 last time.
I seem to remember talking about escrow last time... didn't we cover the native apps drive?

Is there some recent bug/update that webapp developers should deal with? I think I overheard a few times that people were saying that webapps started to "half" open in the browser (e.g. https://forums.ubports.com/topic/1943/youtube-problem-on-m10-tablet-after-upgrade-to-ota-5-stable , https://forums.ubports.com/topic/1945/google-maps-webapp-strange-behaviour)

What's the best advice, documentation, examples, etc for app developers to take care of the oxide deprecation? The best I know is this: https://forums.ubports.com/topic/1734/apps-using-oxide

Any news on UT/Unity8 on x86 laptops?
-
It seems there is some github clean-up going on: cleaning up unnecessary access rights and taking care of old pull requests. Maybe you want to issue a call to arms as well, that people should check their old issues?!
I checked mine recently and found I could close a couple outdated/unreproducible ones.

@lakotaubp Marius, any news on progress with new ports? The pad.ubports.com/p/porting-devices has not been updated for some time, does that mean there is no progress, or??? Thank you!
-
Hey there,
are there any news about the foundation?
Are there any advances in relation to widevine for the morphbrowser?Best regards
Michael

How would you rank the priority of bringing Morph browser up to par with what was the standard set by the legacy browser, for OTA-6? Some users cannot upgrade without having a stable and reliable workhorse browser. Will you take requests from them to focus on triage of specific issues for Morph in the release, or for future releases?

now that we are on solid ground again thanks to the 16.04 move, what are your thought on the longer term feature development and design changes (if any) you guys would like to see happen? IIRC there are still quite some changes available that were developed by Canonical for UT that never landed. Is that correct? Are those or any other design changes on the cards to be worked into UT?
-
I hear that the Librem 5 dev kits are on the verge of being shipped. Will UT get one or more of them? What are your expectations when changing out Hybris to whatever it is we will be needing instead to enable that hardare?
-
When will the unity 8 shell bug get the improvement?
16.04 qtbase-abi bug
18.04 gtk app ui bug -
@ebet14 Unfortunately, WideVine is not something we can ship without explicit permissions, as it's proprietary and not redistributable. We also can't really provide a simple installer that downloads the binary and puts it in an appropriate place, as the only way to get it on ARM at the moment, seems to be via ChromeOS, and that is a 2GB image that would need to be downloaded to extract from.

@blanca12 you realise that the q&a has already taken place, right?! And you realise that your question is actually verbatim my question that was asked in time and answered in the show? I suggest you go watch the recording. Link is in the first post.
-
@blanca12 That question was asked further up in this thread. I don't know if it was answered but there will be a blog post shortly and you should till be able to watch the youtube here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=47Qdv9vTblw For info there is little point posting questions in a q&a thread after the event has taken place. Either wait for the next one ( 24/11) or use the normal forum route.
