Hi,
I just wanted the UBports developers to be aware of this promising project by a Fairphone 2 owner. He has opened the following topic in the Fairphone forum asking for suggestions:
https://forum.fairphone.com/t/new-fp2-motherboard/44069
If it gets to hit Kickstarter, it will definitely become a reality. I encourage you to post a reply on the topic there, for the motherboard to fulfill Ubuntu Touch's present and future requirements!

Moved to Off-Topic because it doesn't belong to OS (that category is for "Discussions on development of Ubuntu Touch")
-
@vomae we talked about that in some informal UBports channels (e.g. UBOF) and the general consensus IIRC was "good luck to that guy" if you know what I mean
-
@advocatux Hahaha yes, but, well, you will agree that the people at Canonical also wished good luck to UBports at the time. And keeps on wishing.
If anybody that was not aware of this project wants to do more than just wishing good luck, there's the link to the topic above. Me myself I really haven't done anything more than just wishing him good luck! xd

@vomae yes, it's better to have big dreams anyway

Hello,
I'm the guy that is designing a new motherboard for the Fairphone.
Since than a lot of things changed, and the project is almost completed.
Now I just need some help from Fairphone, maybe some kind of experienced engineer that could look over it and might find some mistakes, but last but least somebody that is able to devolop software for the board. There are three parts,
- The software for the processor
- The software for the SMC (basicly just a microcontroler with a special interface to the CPU)
- Some kind of BIOS
The hardware used:
- 128GB Micron eMMC
- Sierra Wireless WP LTE module w. 2-Core ARM based CPU (1x Telecom Core 1x General Purpose Core)
- Intel Atom x7 z8750
- 8gb LPDDR3 800mhz RAM
- TI WiFi+Bluetooth module
- Microchip MEC170x SMC
- Dual 64mbit BIOS/UEFI
- QI Charger
- NFC
- TI Audio CODEC
- A lot of testpoints that could be useful for testing
If you can help me with any of the Software or hardware related steps neccessary to complete the project, that would be very nice. If you decided that you want to help me or you're just interested, I can send you documentation like boardview, schematics or links to the datasheets of the ICs

@usingfairphone I'm sorry I can't help, but I do wish you well with this.

@usingfairphone yes, I can't help you either but I want to wish you the best with such humongous goal
