Hi all, I was wondering if there is a plan for a Ubports Flagship phone.
It would be a great as many people would probably opt for such a device.
If there is not a plan for such a device to be supported, at least an insight to the future supported devices would be great.
What brands/manufacturers are easiest to port Ubports to?
I bet any money that Ubports supporters would welcome such a flagship with long lasting battery and huge RAM and the speediest processors.
      Anyone to answer this?
      Thank you.

Well, for me the same. If the UBports developer will bring UBports to a real flagship powerful device, I will buy one.
If there is an option, that the developers will earn on the sales, it's even much better!
I have my bq E4.5, which is really underpowered phone and with no convergence options.
My Aquaris FHD tablet is somehow better. But well, it's a tablet, I will not have this in my pockets all the time and it's also not that powerful device.
Just recently I bought a new Android phone an I am very unsatisfied, how hard it is to control and it is just spying me out.

There was some discussion about this already in the team.

TBH Its hard to decide. External monitor support was mentioned to be mandatory, and other super features. But alas the prices! And then its about openness of the platform and access to all drivers etc. We would probably need to speak with a vendor, and its sad that you lock yourself in again to them and their continued support and we would be very depending on the mercy of that vendor.
So no decision has been made, but maybe we are lucky and find such a thing, which is super powerful and potentially convergent, but in the same turn it is open for custom developers ๐Ÿ™‚

The dream would be to have a vendor ship a device with UBports some time in the future, but the OS needs to be rock-solid for that. One of the major mistakes canonical made was getting an immature system in the hands of end-users: Many people got disappointed and walked away (well, except the crowd that's still there ;)).

We have of course our core devices that are the main development focus for us. Choosing only one device would be tricky, because it would piss off the community of the existing devices to no end and would result in a lot of perfectly fine devices to be thrown away or left to rot in some drawer. Not our vision.

Still, we need new and more powerful devices, i give you that. As you probably know, we are working on making hardware enablement and porting easier, and as soon as that's done we will of course also see new devices with powerful hardware that can really make both convergence and mobile computing shine. On the wish-list are a fast CPU with arm64 architecture, a lot of RAM, a decent battery, Good screen, HDMI our or HDMI over USB and LTE both worldwide and in the USA.

There are a couple of current or yet-to-be-released phones that meet these criteria, but first we have to finish Halium and a working prototype of the 16.04 rebased version of UBports working on top of it. But then it's going to be awesome!

Hi isn't the Pro 5 summing up quite well to that req? Arm64 good CPU. 3g ram and an super screen... A decent battery and with miracast it can as well do convergence...
Just to my understanding still some annoying bugs.. Haven't moved to ubport yet so its just insight by reading in the forum.

@Lars Still not a Flagship it could have been. Some of the bugs are pain in the a...
My question was mainly about a a vision to the future, which can be hard to preddict as some folks said. Maybe Oneplus would be a good choice as some models are worked on and Oneplus 5 once is out as it should have an unlocked bootloader and apparently it's gonna be awesome (though expensive)
                Just thinking outloud.

@Flohack In addition I think the size of the flagship is also very important for it to be convenient to bring. At least for me anything bigger than the Nexus 4 or 5 is pretty useless as a phone. ๐Ÿ™‚

@NeoTheThird Not only the users walked away but also the vendors like bq and Meizu probably smiled when they saw the first versions xD...

@hans1977se You canยดt have both, flagship these days means its totally huge, breaks on the first drop to the floor and/or self-desctructs the battery xD - on the other hand, everything that can be a daily driver because its small, dependable and simply functional seems booooooring xD

@Flohack I think you're probably right, but maybe it wouldn't have to be that way. A big phone screen will always be small anyway, and that's how convergence comes in handy. I think a good computing power spec with quite a bit of ram and flash is a perfect Ubuntu phone flagship. ๐Ÿ™‚

Do we return to fall down in the same mistake of canรณnical, mas telephones? For that?
Nexus 4 and 5 are very good telephones and with good performance. He does not take advantage of his potential.
                          The S.O must be optimized.
These telephones with android, they are perfect.
Nevertheless with ubuntu not. For that?
We continue with the same thing. Mas telephones and mas problems. It will never finish.

Well, that's why it's better to write what you means and not using shortcuts.
Don't be too lazy, pressing a few keys more, so there will be no misunderstanding.
And not everybody knows every shortcut you know.
Sometimes, when the "self named" experts write messages and using many shortcuts, I need to check in Google what it means. And many times, there are many meanings for one shortcut.
So the writer saves maybe two seconds in tying a few letters less and I need a lot of time to check it and figure out what it means.
