Theming, or some sort of dark theme. And nightshift.

RE: Branding UBports: OS name / Project Logo / Project Name
I'd honestly prefer we stick with something like "UBPorts Touch", and keep the robot logo.

Are there any plans - ongoing or not - to upgrade Halium-'s base to android 9? If not, what would have to be done to do so?

There's a Delete Account button on the "Edit Profile" page, although I wouldn't recommend deleting your account.

Too heretical?
Maybe not too heretical, but maybe difficult - Samsung's been working on deX for a long while now, so you'd have to convince them to give up all of their desktop related work. You also have to get Mir & Unity8 working on android, which would in itself be a huge task.

RE: Could UBports adopt Google's blob emoji from Android 4.4?
I'd love that too.
The blob emoji are the best.

Sorry for the poor resolution, but we're at the limit of the max image sizes. I also wanted to share the .svg file, but it exceeds the max size... (together with embedded images, it makes 35Mb...). If wanted, we'll find a way to share it !
Perhaps Imgur or similar?
Anyways, the amount of effort you've put into it, and the quality of your concepts, is amazing! -

RE: Do I need to root my Fairphone 2 to install Ubuntu Touch? [Solved]

Hi,
you need to unlock the bootloader if it is still locked, and you need to enable developer mode in android, and authorize the adb access the first time you are connecting to the PC - do you need more infos on that?
BR Florian
Hi Florian.
Is unlocking the bootloader the same as rooting?
Could you clarify 'authorize the adb access'? Is that simply: "sudo apt install adb fastboot"?Unlocking the bootloader is a separate process that allows you to flash (install) OS software onto your phone via fastboot. When you first connect your phone to your computer with ADB running and developer mode on, a dialog will appear on your phone asking if you want to allow the computer to affect your device. IIRC neither of these require rooting, and are often prerequisites themselves for rooting.

The show notes from Q&A 40 include the following:
The possibility of the project Treble as a solution.
That could use a uniform API, via a binder, instead of going through bionic and libhybris as we do now. A Linux hardware interface definition layer uses C++ to create an interface. A service starts a device side server and connects to a vendor server. This is in a way similar to the way desktop systems operate.
Is UBports still contemplating whether Project Treble will be of any help to UT? If so, what are the current thoughts?
Doing so would require updating Halium to android 8.1/9, which is also required to port UT to most newer phones. Is there any plans to do so?

Cannot get Halium source
I'm following the halium porting guide in here, but
repo sync -c -j 16
after
repo init -u https://github.com/Halium/android -b halium-7.1 --depth=1
always fails with
error: Exited sync due to fetch errors
The error
error: RPC failed; curl 56 GnuTLS recv error (-9): Error decoding the received TLS packet. fatal: the remote end hung up unexpectedly fatal: early EOF fatal: index-pack failed
appears repeatedly throughout the log (full log here). Searching this gives me nothing, apart from running
git config --global http.postBuffer 1048576000 git config --global https.postBuffer 1048576000
which has no effect (and seems to be for a different error "
error: RPC failed; curl 56 GnuTLS recv error (-9): A TLS packet with unexpected length was received.
"). Running with-f
doesn't fix anything; it doesn't end witherror: Exited sync due to fetch errors
, but repos are still missing.I have tried changing revisions to fix this, but that also doesn't fix the issue (I've left LineageOS/android_development on branch
lineage-16.0
, which seems to fix that repo. I'll be Tring to use lineageOS 16.0 sources to port anyways, so I may need to change the other LOS repos too). -
