missing xmpp and a very slow install in libertine
-
Hello!
I have the BQ Aquaris FHD and am very happy about the new edition of Ubuntu Touch.
I have 2 questions:
-
Is it normal that the package installation in libertine takes a long time? (over 24h for firefox - no end in sight)
- the graphical user interface says "installing"
- "libertine-container-manager list-apps" in the terminal shows no apps
- "libertine-container-manager install-package -p firefox" says "ERROR: install_package(): Package 'firefox' is already installed."
-
Is there a reason that there's no xmpp messenger (with omemo)? Or am I blind?
Thanks and regards

Libertine is still a very experimental feature, so there may be some bugs with it (such as the GUI being stuck on installing). Also, Firefox will not currently work under UT.
-
XMPP requires a persistent connection to the server, which is not good for a phone, so currently there is no client provided by default.

Thank you.

Okay. I then I'll take another app to try out libertine.

I looked for xmpp-clients in the OpenStore. There are other messenger-clients that also need a persistent connection (I think).

I thought fluffychat supports xmpp somehow too...(?) @Krille didn't you tell me that?

You can set up a bridge on the Matrix server instance side for XMPP, IRC, and other networks. FC itself does not do XMPP directly, as I understand.

That may be. They are also not installed by default. If there's no XMPP app in the store, then it's more simply just that nobody has built an XMPP app. One can be built for sure, and not use a persistent connection, but the experience will be lacking.

I asked krille and he gave me that link: https://christianpauly.github.io/fluffychat/faq.html#HowcanIenteraXMPPmultiuserchat

There is https://open-store.io/app/loquiim.nfsprodriver which supports OTR. You could also use conversejs.org as a webapp for XMPP. But there is nothing that supports Push Notifications yet. In my opinion XMPP is not suitable to replace a messenger like Telegram or Matrix on mobile...
