UB Touch, Nexus 5, smb DVR server playback help

I have an Ubuntu samba server with an attached RAID DVR box.
I have successfully streamed media from this box with VLC running my iPhone, laptop, my Nexus 5 when it was running Android, and my Amazon Fire Stick.
Now that I have switched my Nexus 5 to UB Touch, what is the best GUI program/method (VLC?) to connect to my samba server (configured with no authentication - open to my home network), and stream a video of choice?

Samba is buggy on uTouch.
Try to access your samba server via file explorer app, and prey for it to work.
