ubports installer - logfile: interesting behaviour
-
Hallo,
I have installed ubuntu touch on a nexus 6P and have some problems.. So I have brought as an experiment a nexus 5, that is better supported.
The installation was on the first attempt problematic (installer hangs on "preparing system-image" for over half an hour. So I have copied the log file of the ubports installer in process to the desktop to check if something happens. Timestamp from 18:43).
After sometime I have stopped the installer and checked the logfile - and now the entries differ! A whole number of entries are missing?! (last log 19:30)After that I have started the Installer again and within 5 minutes the installation process has been processed successfully (and overwritten the logfile)
Conclusion:
It would be nice, if the installer would be more verbose (what was happening behind the sceen)
It would be nice to know WHICH steps the installer has to execute, so everyone would know what should happens next.
Additional it would be nice to know the approximate time for each step, so someone would know it is working or hanging ;O)These are only ideas of a person who has less experience with a new system, but an Installer who is not working always properly should give more output.
And as a last item: it would be nice if on availible device list, it would be announced what was included in the percentage of what was working and in the percentage what was not working ;O) It was realy hard to find these infomations.
And as a last thing: ubuntu touch works realy nice on an Nexus 5 ;O)

Hi, you can put feature requests here: https://github.com/ubports/ubports-installer/issues. In general, installation is never stuck for half an hour except you got a slow internet, its basically downloading 500MB of data the firt time you use it, for each channel. If you install devel for example, every day there would be a new image, so the installer will fetch that.
