Google sign in broken in online accounts

I have flashed my aging oneplus one with ubuntu touch and so far i'm impressed. Apart from the irritating lag, most things work fine.
I tried giving access to my google account through the online accounts page in settings and i keep getting the message “The browser or app may not be secure. Try using a different browser. If you're already using a supported browser you can refresh your screen and try again to sign in”
Is this normal behaviour? If so, is there anyway to fix this? I've already turned on less secure apps if that helps. -
