Stuck in 'Cleaning up..' or does that just take a long while?

Oneplus 6 | UBports installer 0.8.8 - Beta | Windows 10
My phone did get detected, and stuff did get downloaded. But now the installer just keeps circling on the 'Cleaning up.. Formatting system partition' phase. Did it get stuck or does this just take a long time?
My phone is on and the FastBoot is active on the screen asking me to select something. I am unsure whether or not I should do so? Does the Installer expect me to select something?
I hope someone has the answer for me?

Leave it, it should take anywhere from 5 minutes to around 20 minutes. It seems slow, if it goes beyond, start the process again, but don't tick wipe (or if the Installer says "Start as new a new install") format etc. My galaxy Note 4 took what seem like forever, stuck at the initial boot screen, but then all went well.

@mrt10001 I have had it run for 20 minutes 3 times now, and once for 50 already.. it doesn't seem to improve or get anywhere at all.

Have you ensured you are on Oxygen OS 9.0?
Have you enabled USB debugging and (if available I don't have this phone) OEM unlock in Developer Options and rebooted the phone?
Have you Unlocked the Bootloader and rebooted to the bootloader? This has to be done or the install won't work and error very quickly.
Have you installed compatible TWRP and ensured all the partitions are formatted to EXT4?
If it fails on the Windows 10 installer, try the installer on another operating system such as Ubuntu, Debian, Manjaro etc. -
@MrT10001 Unlocking the bootloader got me further however now I get stuck at "Preparing system image..."
Have you installed compatible TWRP and ensured all the partitions are formatted to EXT4?
Is this also required? TWRP means rooting the device right? I dont recall that being specified anywhere?

@digital_wookiee I don't have this model but some other OP phones need TWRP to clean cache and data and format to Ext4 for the install to work. Sometimes the System also needs to be done but not sure with the OP6/6t. Try again with the installer choose the wipe option and follow the instructions carefully. Then lets go from there. One more question could any of the partion sizes have been changed say by trying other OS?
-
@lakotaubp I will go on to try with the wipe option selected.
The error I get is this: Error: adb:preparesystemimage: Error: {"error":{"code":1,"cmd":"C:\Users\WK\AppData\Local\Temp\1raG3Aut6N5DTMPVp2eiGFFUdbP\resources\app.asar.unpacked\node_modules\android-tools-bin\dist\win32\x86\adb.exe -P 5037 shell mkdir -p /cache/recovery"},"stderr":"mkdir: '/cache/recovery': Required key not available"}
If I choose "Ignore" the installer will say succes, however the phone will reboot back into recovery.
This is a brand new (although second hand) phone with no prior use for other OS (besides the native Oxygen OS from Oneplus itself) -
@Lakotaubp Running it again with the wipe option selected magically made the install go flawless. I am now running Ubuntu Touch on my One Plus 6
Thank you so much for your help and also to @MrT10001

@digital_wookiee Great you can now carry on and enjoy UT. Any further help needed you know where we are. Also you can mark both threads as solved now

@digital_wookiee Great stuff. As a side note, you don't need to root the phone to run TRWP. It is a very handy phone recovery tool and more.
